Here's the dilemma. My mother invited my sister's teacher over to MY house, to purchase MY rabbits. Errr... Did I say purchase? I meant, to take them for free. Somehow my mother left out the fact that they're for sale. Actually, she left out a lot of things. This woman has been telling my mother that she'll come pick them up for the past 3 weeks - but never showed up for the scheduled times. In fact, she's 30 minutes late for today's meeting. I do not have the teacher's contact information. I've never spoken to her directly, never met her in person. I've forwarded my phone number to her, and she hasn't even bothered to call to say that she's running late/won't be able to meet. It really bothers me, because she wants them as pets. She told my mom that she's owned rabbits before. I asked, how many? What breed? Where were they kept? Her answer: over 100 rabbits, "wild ones", in my backyard. :explode: It's illegal to "own" native wild life. I asked what she fed them, she said she didn't. She then told my mother that she had already purchased a cage for the rabbits. I asked "what size"? She says the person at the store told her to get a cage "perfect for dwarf rabbits". I flipped! Told her that the rabbits are 12 lbs and are currently housed in an 11ft x 8ft room. A cage "perfect for dwarf rabbits" is big enough for them to use as a litter box. To my surprise, she went back to the store and purchased an x-pen for dogs. I appreciated that she was willing to purchase something larger. Because I said "... use as a litter box" she assumed they were litter box trained. They're not. She wants to house them in her CARPETED living room. She doesn't have a backyard to put an enclosure, either.

For about the same length of time, I've been speaking to a wonderful lady who recently moved to a farm in order to become more self-sufficient. Adding a few meat rabbits for breeding purposes is the last step to completing her goal. She's owned rabbits in the past, answered all of my questions and seems to be very well researched.

How can I politely say "YOU WILL NEVER OWN MY RABBITS" to my sister's teacher?

First tell her after deciding on your keepers they are all spoken for which buys time. Now she has to wait for the next set of litters. In the meantime make a care sheet of requirements that have to be met like caging. Tell her when she can check off the entire list she can have a rabbit. Suggest she get a dwarf rabbit instead. Then ignore her cause it's probably never gonna happen anyway and so long as you stop bending over backward to set up meeting dates it doesn't sound like she'll find time to come out and get them.

She took too long and was wrongly directed that they were free. Did she agree to pay for the rabbits or is she still assuming they are free?
Tell her they are already sold, if she asks what the heck, tell her she didn't show 3 times.
Ah ignoring people, really works for some people to get it.

Sounds like my ghetto neighbor, who heard I had rabbits. He (9 y/o) shouts at my brother from across the street, "hey you." ...brother tells him come back ____ time when I get off work.
Boy comes back next day as my brother is getting out the car, shouting across the street, at noon... he's told again, come at the right time when I'm home. This happens twice more, and I've decided I'm not selling him anything, don't want to be connected to him. Finally I'm home and I see his mom, I tell her that the rabbits are not free, they cost $, she seems unfazed. I tell her I have nothing yet, need to decide what I want and I have a litter being born, may have something later. She says she doesn't mind getting a baby and sends the boy across the street to check them out. hold on, you can't come in here! Finally I tell her they haven't been born (no lie) and I will let her know when they are ready. That will be never. They are not the best tenents, so I am hoping they will move before they ask me again, and then I will tell them I don't have enough to fill orders (which I don't if I want meat for the dogs).

When I want a wannabe puppy buyer to go away, I give out an impossible sales contract. Someone told me that they wouldn't buy a puppy because I wanted first right of refusal if they coulnd't keep it any longer.

If she didn't show up tonight, then next time she tries to arrange a time I would just politely tell her you are sorry but they all are gone, that when she didn't make it at the appointed time and you didn't hear from her, you assumed she was no longer interested so the next person who came after her scheduled time wanted more than one and you sold them.

Oh My........

Note to Devon: you're so very lucky that your mother is rabbit savvy and wouldn't dare invite some of that nature to your home, let alone purchase your rabbits.

The woman was late, so I figured she would never come. I left the house to pick up some errands and come home to seeing my mother handing the rabbit over to the teacher. I felt like blasting every curse in the book, but out of respect of the two young kids in the home, I bit my tongue (which I now regret) and let her take the rabbit.

GAH! WHY DID I LET HER TAKE THE RABBIT? :wall:

Despite the fact that I had clearly stated she was 12 lbs, they were very surprised that she was "so big". My mother then says "Oh, well Frida has a tiny one. You can have him too!". :jump2: :annihilate: At that point I was infuriated and screamed "He's not for sale". She didn't know how to hold the rabbit properly. I showed her the right way to do it, and she just completely ignored my suggestion. When I showed how much she eats in a day, they were shocked at "how little" it was. The daughter refused to hold her, and didn't even want to touch her. Their jaws, literally, dropped when I said the rabbit could live for 10 years or more, if they treat her well. **** I didn't even get her email or phone number. AND SHE'S BEING TRANSFERED TO AN OTHER SCHOOL. YESTERDAY WAS HER LAST DAY -- SO alkjalkdugfalkaljksdhflaksjdfhalksjdfhalskjdfh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why? Why? WHY? **** WHY!

In the bill of sale it states that if things don't work out, she has no right to sell the rabbit, and would be forced to return her to me, with no refund or compensation provided. I'm really hoping that she returns her.

Yeah...that stinks..."Mom" needs a lesson in boundaries....

I'll second that. My mom is very good at saying "those are my daughters...you need to talk to her about that." Although I technically live in her house (she is my landlord), she doesn't even enter the bunny barn. She knows what those animals mean to me, and she respects me and them.

HOW IS IT YOUR MOTHER HAS ACCESS TO YOUR HOME AND YOUR RABBITS??!!!

She has a key to the house and visits almost everyday. Spring 2013, I'm moving [yet again] to a farther location. The distance will [hopefully] minimize our visits to holidays, only.

Ummm. . . Change the locks, and don't give her a key to your new place. She evidently thinks that everything of yours belongs to her, as well.

I also recommend reading the book "Boundaries" by Henry Cloud.

Oh....

In that case, I would have given her a very respectful but firm talking to...

Wow, Pink!

I was under the impression that you lived at your Mom's house, with her dumping of your seedlings, etc. That is unbelievable that she would invade your home and basically steal your animals from you.

I wouldn't waste any time changing your locks, and I would give her an earful about respecting other people's property.

I threatened to padlock the cages shut on my mom when she kept feeding them random things after I just got them. They'd never had anything but pellets and she thought she could feed them like guinea pigs and dump all the fresh alfalfa or carrots they could eat in front of them.

Yikes! Yes, BOUNDRIES! I still live at home, and Mom still doesn't ever try to even make sales for me. Heck, she won't deliver rabbits for me for fear of handing it over to the wrong person. Actually, on the other hand, I handle most of her sales...

see im normally too nice like that also,, im like a door mat :( however if i ever EVER cought my mom or boyfriend or anyone EVER trying to sell my animals that are not for sale of just gie them away there would be h-e double hockey sticks to pay. thats why ive almost moved out twice. my parents think they can control me when things dont go their way they threaten to get rid of my animals or let the birds out the window.. its they're house yea, but they gave me permission to use the room and its not like theyre creating a mess (thats not vacumable) or creating problems with the whole house.. i could see if i had animals that rampaged the house or destroyed furnature but i mean come on. i'm 20 and my boyfriend and i are saving up to rent a duplex or something incase it happens again.my animals mean way too much to me.. so we may move out in a year to two years (which is when i plan on getting buns lol) though i do know if i get buns i cant say no to him getting a dog, even though it would be too soon. oops! good thing im in the random ramblings part cuz boy am i rambling haha

but yea i might be happy or put off that i'm happy like, 24/7 but to be honest (even though it hasnt happened yet.. i think hell would hath no fury like someone getting between me and my animals.

My parents house and my house have backyards that back up to each other so she is over a lot. Sometimes she has guest over and wants to show them the rabbits (mostly because they are fluffy angoras and the babies are SUPER cute right now).

I even gave her the combination to the padlock I keep on the Rabbitry incase she needs to care for the rabbits in an emergency. But I don't mind her having access to or even going in to show people the rabbits mainly because I know she respects that they are MY animals. I know she would never feed them or give them treats without my permission or open the cages for any reason (even under peer-pressure..lol).

Luckily my parents understand and respect boundaries. Too bad everyone isn't like that. My family knows that when it comes to my animals... ask first or suffer my wrath.
