I am curious how often to clean out the nest box for both of the litters we recently had (one week ago). Also, when do you take the nest box out of the area? When you do then do you just provide extra hay/straw for them to cuddle in?

Just want to make sure I know when to do what.
:thankyou:

I check my nestboxes daily. I haven't had to change any out, but I do look daily. Once the kits open their eyes, I change all of the box material out.

Depending on the weather, once the kits start getting out of the box, I either turn it over on its side and leave it, or I take it out and put in a three sided box (no front or bottom to it) with some hay. This gives the kits a place to get into to snuggle.

I think it depends on the bedding that you use. When my rabbits were in cages and I used shredded newspaper for bedding I usually changed the bedding out after the kits opened their eyes and maybe a week or so later if it got a bit soggy. Now they are out in the colony and I use straw for bedding I haven't had to change out any nest boxes and had only one case of nest box eye and it was only one eye on one kit which cleared itself up in a couple of days.
