I feed 4oz. to my bucks and does that r not breed or have babies, 6 oz. to my breed does and the does that have babies but not out of nesting box yet, 10 oz. to does that has babies eating with her. Is this enough or is it to much. I use to feed them all 8oz. but they wasted and scratched it out of there feeder. :hmm: oh yea I forgot to add they r NZW and mini rex!

I give mine as much as they will clean up in 24 hours. I give them additional hay in winter and fresh greens (grass, dandelions, clover, alfalfa) in summer.

I hear you Sara,
I used to fill the Hoppers up when the Does were with kits.
I find that is often not scrabbling, but just the fact that
the kits drop half thye pellet when they are feeding.
I have taken to feeding what the Rabbits will eat and require
a refill at the next feeding. {earl AM.]
I used to feed a tuna can full of feed to individuals,
at the next feeding if the feeder was empty I'd feed
a little bit more until I found the point where there
was just a few pellets left when I went to feed the next morning.
That was the amount I fed. Each Rabbit was/is fed as an individual.
You will find that some members of the herd will require more
and some less to maintain condition. You do not want FAT Rabbits,
I prefer them to be just a bit on the hungry side and happy
to see me arrive with the feed bucket.
You have to find what works best for you and your herd.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I measure out feed between 1-1.25 cups at feeding time for all rabbits which are above the ages of 4 months. Like Ottersatin, I like my rabbits to be a little on the hungry side when I show up to feed them.

I free-feed does with litters, and it seems to work pretty well, but the key is to feed them a small pelleted ration. Again as Ottersatin pointed out, larger pellets will equate to more loss over time with bunnies, and my nursing does and bunnies under 4 months are fed an 18% ration which is smaller than your typical pelleted feed, while adults over 4 months of age are fed 16%.

All totalled, I go through about 150 lbs of feed per month.

Another thing. If a rabbit is scratching feed out of their feeder, it may be prudent to consider another brand. I did so, and the wasting of feed greatly decreased afterward.
