Big Mama is due today. She has been bleeding some since yesterday. Not a lot, but definitely blood. It looks like when she pees or poops, she also expels some blood. She is in the next box, furiously nesting. Just concerned as none of my others have bled before kindling.

Not sure about bunnies, but when I awoke the morning I started labor with my 3rd, I was passing blood and it freaked me out since that didn't happen with my first two births. The midwife assured me that was normal, and everything turned out fine. I hope the same goes with rabbits and you get a nice litter!

The funny thing is that I am VERY familiar with human labor and delivery, and yes, what you are describing is totally normal for women.....rabbits, I am just not that familiar with...:(

Well, mammals are all pretty similar- but I know how distressing it can be when something you've never seen before crops up. Hopefully someone else has experienced this with rabbits and will put your mind at ease!

If there is just a bit, I would not be concerned. If she is bleeding constantly that would be another matter... but not sure what one could do to help. It sounds normal to me... I've seen a little blood beforehand in one or two of my does and they kindled without problems. Hope it is the same for yours! :clover:

I wouldn't worry too much unless she looks like she's having an awful time, straining or some thing like that then I'd worry about a stuck kit. If she was truely hemorrhaging from a rip or difficulty, she'd be gone already as its a matter of seconds not minutes. Sadly I know nothing that can be done for that and thank goodness I've not seen it a lot. I hope your doe does fine and has lots of nice kids soon :)

From what I can tell it is just a little bit, and only once or twice a day since yesterday, so it is probably ok. Thanks for all the replies, it helps to ease my mind. :)

About 3 months ago I had a doe start bleeding a little, and 2 days later she kindled 6 big kits, 5 of which were does, and now are in my breeding herd. I was quite worried too, but it all worked out fine, and I assume your doe will be just fine as well. :D Best of luck!

She is still hanging in there...yesterday was Day 31 and still no popples, but she has nested and I can feel the babies kicking around in there....she is getting bigger by the day! I hope it is a bunch of small ones and not just a few huge ones for her sake.

I know, it is just hard because I am here at work and she is at home... :( At least Hubs is home this week so he will check on her periodically. *sigh* This is worse than waiting on my own babies!
