Interested in producing more of this does "blond" agouti color. I have no background info on her. When bred to my solid blue Satin buck she produces normal darker agouti color and black marten/otter (not 100% sure which they are). Any suggestions or what the official name of her color?

It's a red with little rufus modifiers so it comes out duller and browner. Most likely also lacks wideband and has a lighter belly instead of solid that is preferred in red. The 2 rabbits that produced it carry nonextension which also makes torts and I guess you'd call them otter points.

It looks like a lighter agouti to me. I see them in mix breeds sometimes.

This one was a NZ mutt out of a red. Maybe the selection for less smut on reds causes them to produce agouti kits with less ticking?

I don't think it has an official color name. And I don't think they are exactly the same genetically as a sandy Flemish.

Going to have to reread the chapter on rabbit color genetics and look up some of those terms. Would my chances be better with an otter son bred back to her? Or an agouti offspring?

Actually, Dood was just mentioning that "lynx" Palamono rabbits were just genetically very light agoutis. (Normally they are agouti with chocolate and dilute)

If that is what your looking for, I'd choose the lightest colored agouti buckling.
(it's what I would do if she was a red, as well)
For pretty opals, breed one of the agouti doelings back to the blue satin buck.

To help confirm, can you show us the otter kit?

She has giving me 3 litters. All the same 2 colors, and all litters equally half one color half the other.

__________ Thu Apr 03, 2014 3:27 pm __________

Thanks Zass! Those mixes sound intriguing. Going to need more cages... Wait I always need more cages!

AH, otters are so pretty! It is the same genetic pattern as tan or martin. Chances are, breeding an otter doeling back to the blue satin buck who produced them would make you some blue otters.
