I noticed yesterday that my standard rex buck has hotspots on his hocks. Little areas that are bare of hair. He has a ceramic tile as a resting board. Should I swap it out for wood? Is there anything else I should do?

They sound like bald spots and a precursor to infected/sore hocks and IMHO wood would be worse as it holds bacteria easier

You may want to put him in a solid bottom cage with deep litter or lots of straw and a nest  litter box until the fur grows back

Is he moulting?

Oops meant a litter box

Hay should work as long as he doesn't eat soiled hay

Hopefully it is just due to his moult and won't progress but while you wait for his fur to grow back in keep a close eye on his feet

I've heard there are some things you can apply to toughen up the skin, others may chime in and there are lots of products in the market to toughen up dog foot pads and I think most would be safe for rabbits
