In the last couple of days I've had three litters kindled. I counted up today. In each litter, 13, 14, 15. That's 42 kits. FORTY TWO!!
And I found a wanderer in the cage adjoining the doe who had 15 so she had 16, I figure she got surprised or something to have one outside the box.
I've got otters, BLUE otters, and another red, among a ton of brokens.
I can't even blame Mystang 'cause I asked for the voodoo whammy

Cages, I need cages stat! :cryingbaby: :cryingbaby:

Whu-u-ut???

Um... you do know that you don't need to give rabbits fertility hormones, right? ;) Plus it kind of negates the whole "raising a natural meat source" aspect.

Nonsense! Of course you can!!!

Blame away, he's used to it.

But be careful... I hear he is collecting stipends as part of the "Mystang-needs-extra-money-clause" of the "internet rabbit population stimulus plan" that he has so cleverly inadvertently implemented. :money:

LMAO...... :p :p :p :p

3Mina..........you should know better! :x

Murphy's Law just loves to catch folks with their britches down.
ALWAYS....keep a few cages squirreled away somewhere just for times like this.

Keep your eyes peeled and the next time a good deal comes along, Just
grab a few cages for a cheap price and hang onto them for emergencies.

grumpy.

BTW: I've got 30 or 40 extras hidden on top of the rabbit room loft in the barn.

I wish I could Grumpy but up here there's no such animal as cheap cages
I see wire dog crates and floor wire in my future *sigh* good thing I've got several
I *could* blame Mystang I suppose, he hit the wrong does
As I recall seeing earlier, no stipend available here, my feed bill just tripled

I've got six I hadn't set up after I moved them this spring so there's the next project
I think I'm going to split the two biggest litters so everybunny has a better chance at the milkbar, no point in having huge litters of tiny kits

No 'extras' for my bunns MSD, with these sorts of numbers I'd be afraid to try it :x
Can you imagine what the nestboxes would look like? I'd need to wall off half the cage  :x

Whoa! I sure hope you have been successful finding new accommodations! (I have been secretly hoping for the best for you on this front!) :)

LOL, congrats on all the rabbits!!! I feel real sorry for those does. Wow that's a lot of rabbits to hold her that belly. Welp, my work here is done. Time to get my rabbits rebred now :)

I decided that since I've got a ridiculous number of kits I'd best supplement these does to give them the best chance for raising them.
So I picked up a bag of calf manna tonight and, serving suggestions on the bag aside, I'm guessing I need to start these girls on this slowly correct? I was thinking of a half teaspoon and increasing by a quarter tsp every couple of days til I get to a tablespoon.

Should I be giving the grow outs some as well? Even with two 11" feeders in the cage (3' x5') there's a lot of bunns in there.

I was looking at the colours I've got and I have a feeling I have a ton of ambers since at first glance they look like chocolate otters and I've been fooled before
I also have a bunch of blue otters and a ton of brokens rounding out the rainbow.

__________ Sat Jun 07, 2014 9:37 pm __________

So I've lost six and not all teenies, mostly from not getting scraped off when mum leaves the nest I think. I fostered another six with a couple friends who had does with small litters. That leaves me with 30 in the barn and I'm pretty pleased with what I'm seeing in the boxes growth wise.

Honestly, I'm kind of relieved. I mean that's a lot of strain on a doe and what they have left is going to be keeping them at full bore.

And these kits are massive also, all three does are milking very well and the kits are growing like weeds.
They're starting to fur out now and I'm laughing at myself at how badly I mess up colours before they do. My castors litter was my most accurate, blue otters, black otters, and castors with a couple possible martens. My otter doe I was WAY off, I thought I had a chocolate otter or amber-nope, the darkest castor ever, two blacks, a red, lots of castors, and a couple otters. The chin has outdone herself with odd colours this time, I have a lilac tort and the first chin kit in ages among the plethora of brokens. I thought the shaded she threw last time was funky but the lilac is lovely, useless but lovely

So my buck carries ch, seeing the funky stuff he keeps throwing with my chin doe.

Two of these does are keepers but the chin is actually on the cull list, she's got a thin coat and she doesn't raise more than eight but usually has several more. She is also unpedigreed since when I first started breeding I was only interested in meat and didn't keep records. I'm down to two does left from then, one I'd sold to Whipple and she came back this spring. She's the only one I have a ped on since she's a daughter of my original trio who came with peds and the chin.

The castor doe will be going back to Whipple eventually so I'll be looking at her litters closely, those genes I want to keep since there's blue otters in this litter along with the neverending milk bar. I fostered three of her smallest (ha!) with a friend but she still has ten and they're fat and sassy.
