I have a Chocolate Holland Lop Buck bred to what I guess is a dutch marked Mini Lop Doe (Blue Eyes). What kind of colors can I expect. The doe is a first time doe and the buck has only sired one litter (Chocolate, Black and Fawnish Kit) you can see the bucks litter at holland-lop-lionhead-kits-at-9-weeks-t14857.html?hilit=holland%20lop%20lionhead Doe is due on Tuesday August 20. I put nestbox in today and she started pulling fur so I expect and earlier litter. Two questions

What colors can I expect?

Is having litter a couple of days early better for first time does? Seems like a get a lot of pulled kits from first time does and thought maybe having babies earlier they would be a little smaller and come out easier.

Here is the buck and doe

I don't know what colors you'll get but that Vienna marked tort doe is cute!!

Doe is a VM tort. What color are her parents? The buck's parents? The colors will depend on what recessives they are hiding. If your buck doesn't carry non-extension, then you will get all selfs (black, choco, lilac, blue). If he does, you can get torts and blacks. If your doe carries chocolate, you can get chocolates or chocolate torts. If both carry dilute, you can get blue and blue tort... and if they were to both carry dilute and the doe carry chocolate, you could get lilac and lilac tort. Any could be VM.

Unfortunately I don't have any history on the two rabbits. They were both freebies. The Chocolate came from a breeder that was downsizing and was looking for a good home. The doe came from our great neighbors that had the rabbit for a year or so but wanted to rehome her. That is interesting about the doe being a VM tort. I have several vm rabbits but none with white markings like her. She is a mess right now. She has pushed the nestbox to the middle of the cage and appears to be planning on using a corner of the cage for the nest. Since she is indoors, I'll contend with the nest location after she kindles.

The buck carries non extension, since he sired a fawn kit before.

You will get blacks and black torts and 50% will carry the Vienna gene and may have white markings. Please inform your buyers that the kits could be Vienna carriers, some people want this gene to make BEW but others don't want the it.

If the doe carries chocolate you'll get chocolate and chocolate tort.

Her tort markings are a bit irregular. She could be shedding but is there any chance she is harlequin?

I don't think she is Harlequin but then again I didn't realize she was a VM tort lol. I'll try to get some side shots of her up today.

__________ Mon Aug 19, 2013 3:42 pm __________

Here are 2 more pictures of the doe

With the new pictures I believe she is just a tort who is shedding leading to irregular banding on her face.
Their first litter was all blacks and blues. None are showing vienna markings. What else cause blue eyes besides the vienna gene? Might need a few litters to see if vienna gene shows itself. Kits just opened their eyes but I can't tell if any are blue.

Dutch.

But I HIGHLY doubt it is the dutch gene.

The reason so many breeders loathe the Vienna gene is it produces carriers with NO markings at all and crops up when you least expect it.

If you've thoroughly checked the kits for a white toe nail or flecks in the fur then it is possible none of them got the gene this time but statistically 50% should.

How many kits were in the litter?
