Been working on my my Lionhead Holland Lop Project and am at Generation II. My goal to continue is a Double Mane Doe.

The Grandparents are a Holland Lop and a Double Mane Lionhead
The Parents are 2 single mane (Holland Lop body)
1st Attempt - 7 kits, 5 stillborn, 1 black single mane Lionhead body, 1 BEW No Mane Holland Lop body
2nd Attempt - 7 kits, 1 stillborn, 1 dead at day 3 and 5 survivors (none double mane)

Arggh problems
First doe didn't use nestbox
Too much hay and paper in cage, blame me
Delivery day, 1 dead kit on the wire
Found babies in the material, moved them to nestbox
Day 2, too busy we didn't check on them
Day 3, separate from the herd, I find a chilled kit
Warm kit up, let it feed from mama, back in the nest you go
Two hours later dead baby
Arrggh so mad for not checking on them.

Rest are doing ok, the kit that died was chocolate. That would have made 5 out of 6 different colors.
I am frustrated that there are no double manes. Initially I had figured if I get Lionlops they would have the Lionhead shape. Is it possible to have a Holland Lop body with double mane?

Size genes seem to trump the racier genes so I am not surprised you are getting cobbier Holland type bodies. My sister and I created lion lops using Mini lops and they have always been rounder and with good bone. The most frustrating part for us was getting good lopping ears back but we are finally there with only a few airplane ones.

We held back a BEW Doe (no mane) from the last letter because my wife fell in love with her. She is 9-10 weeks old and her ears are going out in front like a bull. If they dropped were they are now they would cover her eyes lol. Occasionally she puts the ears down, we are hoping maybe they will drop but understand they probably won't.

In the last litter with just 2 survivors I wasn't shocked that I didn't have any double mane kits. I know the odds are only 25% but it was a real bummer not to have any DM this litter. I had hoped to be moving only to Generation III.
