I have been wondering if anyone has ever considered breeding for hereford coloration in a rabbit.(Hereford being a cow breed that is red with white face, also a breed of hog colored the same way.)

I just think it would be neat, why should the dutch have all the fun with their all belted livestock? I am supposing you would need something that was red, and something that threw face blazes to some degree to start with. What breeds would do that? Can a Dutch mix of any kind end up being blaze faced? It's probably not something I'm going to try anytime soon. I need to finish converting a few more acres into cage space first, and trying a few of all of the known breeds.
Maybe somebody out there needs an idea or an excuse to breed some rabbits. I hope I helped.

There are red dutch around just have to search them out, think they are actually called "yellow" for some strange reason. I know that harlequin dutch exist in this area so not a stretch to get the red.

Wonder how hard it is to get rid of the belt on Dutch. Seems like it would be a pretty strong trait, or at least very hard to get rid of without loosing the white on the face.

Just look for mismarked Dutch with too much colour. The Hereford pattern is a Vienna mark pattern so it's quite doable.

Well, we happen to have a BEW, and a red, so I guess maybe we have all of the neccesary ingredients, I'll let you know how it turns out in 20 years. Trouble is they are both does, and our only buck is a REW. Maybe someone else can take over this project, I'll be busy taste testing the culls.

Pretty easy to get rid of the belt... sometimes Dutch to dutch just do it themselves lol but cross a Dutch with a self and you won't see much white at all except on the nose and paws for the most part. That way you won't be getting BEWs.
