I have spiders and webs in my rabbitry. I live in a very rural area. Most of the spiders are Daddy Long Legs and Wolf spiders. However harmless either May be, I don't want them around me or my rabbits. What kind of spray can I use? Spiders are not insects, but are mites I believe so a mitacide or something similar must be used. Can anyone out there help me out?

daddy long legs aren't spiders and need to be treated differently.
wolf spiders are ground hunting spiders and shouldn't be an issue with your rabbits.

To keep spiders out of your rabbitry a long handled toilet brush works really well, that or a good whisk broom (straw broom). gather them up, sweep 'em out. some folks use a shop vac and then burn the bag to prevent escapees.

spiders are part of the arachnid family as are mites. They are more helpful than harmful.

I'd hesitate to use a spray on them around the rabbits, might not be so good for the rabbits.

If you're finding any number of them, that means there is prey in the area that would likely be of more concern. It's best to let them be, they'll go elsewhere if their food supply dwindles.

yes, my son and I just did a fairly indepth study on spiders. Daddy longlegs have ONE body part, their legs will not grow back (though they can get around better than spiders if they lose a leg), and they have weird eyes. There's spider that looks a lot like them which makes it confusing. Spiders always have two body parts, their legs can grow back, and always have either no eyes or eyes that are in pairs.

I welcome spiders! I don't like walking into their webs but I am glad they are here. Spiders eat other small insects most of which want to eat my plants.

Daddy Longlegs (Harvestmen) eat aphids, caterpillars, beetles, flies, mites, small slugs, snails, earthworms, spiders, other harvestmen, decaying plant and animal matter, bird droppings and fungi. So, again, they are good to have around.

Had the same problem! Got rid of the wheat straw and the spiders numbers in my rabbitry went down dramatically and I sprayed pet friendly product. They are still around, but not nearly as bad as they were. As long as they stay far back in the rafters, we will be ok. Just don't crawl on me or look like these lol -->

When the cobwebs get a little bit too much, I just use one of them "round-ball-fuzzy-duster-thingy's" on the end of a long handle.

The does get a little "whizzed-off" when I knock the webs down on the back, underneath side of their cage. I don't spray often at all around the rabbits.

If I get a large fly problem, I turn off the fans and use a dairy spray one-time under the lengths of the cages. I keep those "Sticky-tapes" up all the time. They're real fun to work with..yuk!

True Daddy long legs are Harvestmen.
There are false Daddys, they have two body segments, usually shorter legs and ugly!
Opiliones (formerly Phalangida) are an order of arachnids commonly known as harvestmen/Daddy long legs.
I love Daddy long legs, my fav little bugs.

They aren't spiders? Are you certain?

Ah-ha! We are having regional-related language difficulties! These are what are referred to as Daddy long-legs here, and they are a spider: http://www.naturephoto-cz.com/daddy-lon ... -5847.html

I looked up Harvestmen also: http://www.royalalbertamuseum.ca/natura ... ddyspd.htm

We have those here too- I had no idea what they were called, but I did always think they were spiders- just really strange looking ones!

You need to give me a little of that, Chickies... they totally creep me out, and I actually like spiders and most bugs!

Great minds think alike, Grumpy! I have one of those, too! It is hanging on the wall in the BunnyBarn!

I just used it the other day on the Daddy Long Legs' (spiders) webs!
