not to sound rude, but is there a reason your breeding her, without first learning more about rabbits? And there are no rabbit races but there are different rabbit breeds.

As a house bunny she wont be use to cold weather and will not have a winter coat so you should not put her outside until the temperature is in the teens (celcius) at night.

She is a rex rabbit, they must stay out of the rain as their fur is like a sponge and if she gets wet and chilled she could easily die so once you put her outside please make sure her hutch is water proof and in a sheltered area.

Why do you want to breed her?

Excuse my english i mean can i breed her for meat i want to start raising rabbit for meat english is not my native language i am sorry

Do you think she could get use to outside if she spend summer out and with rain cover and are you sure she is 100% rex?

What breed of rabbit are the most cold resistant? Because i live in Quebec Canada and it can get -30 celcius in winter plus humidity

__________ Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:49 pm __________

Please help i need to know what breed would be best for her to mate

The picture is not terrific but I am pretty sure she is a rex. Does she have long whiskers or are they short or curly?

She will get use to the cold and start to grow a thicker fur coat in the fall. Large rabbits that weigh more than 10 pounds do better in the cold weather but she looks like she is at least 6 pounds so as long as you provide an insulated house she should be able to live outside all winter in -30.

Since you want to produce meat you can breed her to any rabbit, they all taste the same, but I would not breed her to a rabbit that is more than 2 pounds heavier that she is. The most common large meat breeds are New Zealand, Californian and Flemmish Giant but you may have others in your area.

If she is a Rex does should get to 9lbs easily, breeding with New Zealand or Californian will be fine.

Rex have two copies of the recessive gene that make that wonderful short coat, they don't get the coat if they're crosses. The best buck for her would be a Rex.
I raise Rex for meat and pelts, I live in Alberta. My herd is outside all winter and it doesn't bother them at all. They're in all wire cages and I don't put anything other than a resting pad in with them year round. The place I bought my original trio from kept the herd outdoors as well. As long as they stay dry they will be fine.
I had a two foot roof overhang all the way around my cages, it kept the wet and snow off very well

Hi Mana!

:welcomewagon:

I agree that she looks like a standard Rex. I also raise Rex, and she is more than old enough to breed. If you are breeding for meat, any rabbit within a couple pounds of her weight will be fine.

We have two other members in Canada who breed Rex, and they do fine in your temperatures. Just make sure she is out of the wind and can't get wet.

If you move her outside once it gets warmer, she will be fine this coming winter.

1 word WOW thank you guys you are the best i made my decision i find it more nice to mate her with another rex :) they have beautifull pelt and good size i just cant wait cheers to all of you and stay safe i will keep posting update on her and buck

You have a beautiful rabbit! :)

Many times it is difficult to tell what breed a rabbit is, but with Rex it is easy. No other rabbit breed has that fur. The fur has a completely different look to it.

It is true that you can breed her to any other breed to produce meat rabbits. But if you like her fur and want the babies to have that fur, you have to breed her to a Rex. :)

If you want pelts like hers you need to get another like her. I'd love to find a pair of this colour, that'd make a breathtaking blanket.

I will find a buck :)

__________ Wed Apr 10, 2013 9:01 am __________

What should i feed her before she get pregnant?

We need to know how much she weighs to tell you how much rabbit pellets she should be getting. She is already a bit over-weight so a diet would be a good idea.

this time of year you can move her outside no problems. just make sure she's sheltered and out of wind/rain.

I rescue rabbits all year round and they go straight outside and do just fine. I don't find them shivering or in any ways acting cold. All I do is put them in the warmest spot of my UNinsulated rabbitry (tarp style).

Rex crosses make excellent meat rabbits. But do weigh her. Mini rex go to about 6 lbs for the brood sized, standard rex are generally in the 9 lb range from what I know. At nine months she should be at her basic adult weight.

Thank you friend she is mini-rex or a normal rex?

__________ Wed Apr 10, 2013 6:09 pm __________

Thank you friend really helped me out cheers!
