I lost a rabbit with odd symptoms. Currently we have one with wry neck and treated the whole lot with ivermectin per instructions here http://www.barbibrownsbunnies.com/ecuniculi.htm . It's made me a bit edgy about sick rabbits and butchering. It's been about 2 weeks since treating now with no other symptoms and the wry neck one learning to eat and drink sideways.
We had 2 sudden days of 90F and 90+ randomly and the following day found one laying in the near empty dog bowl. It was mostly limp when removed and placed on the floor. After awhile it tried to run off and bashed in to the wall. We brought it back with us to the condo from the farm to see if we could do anything and put it in stable indoor temperatures. I washed it's dirty belly from getting wet and then running across the colony and about figured it dead after that because it went limp again. After a few minutes it perked back up and I tried to feed it and give it fruit juice but got nowhere. A couple hours later we hear crashing about and find it laying in the opposite corner paralyzed. I guess a stroke or seizure. It screamed a few times over the next 10 mins and we wrapped it in a towel and tried to keep it upright which stopped the screaming. It was dead this morning.
So another victim of the wry neck protozoa and should I treat again or waste this batch of rabbits instead of feeding to the dogs or heat stroke and a fried brain? We did lose a kit to the heat. The rest left the box and fur but that one must have stayed and overheated in the nest because it was found dead in the fur pile.
