I understand that rabbits don't handle the heat well. I have been closely observing my buns and noting the temps. I even taught my 10 year old what to look for so he can alert me to problems as well.

My question is this....If I have observed them with no problems at 85*, can I assume that the next time it hits 85 they'll be fine then too? It would be nice not to have to worry as much if I'm away from home for the day. Are there other factors that affect how they handle the heat?

They are on the north side of the house and only get maybe 2 hours of indirect sun late in the early evening. They have plenty of room to stay in the shade. I've only given them ice bottles once, when it got to about 90. And even then they just seemed a little uncomfortable but weren't in distress.

Humidity and breeze helps, so if there is a cool breeze and low humidity one day and they are fine, doesn't mean when the humidity goes up and the breeze stops that they will be ok. Also, if they are pregnant the next time it's hot, they might not fair so well.

Keep them out of drafts or direct wind.

Somethings you can put into there cages are...

ceramic tiles: Make sure they are rounded so they don't cut your rabbits. The rabbit will lay against them and soon cool down.

Water bottle: I honestly don't use this but its an idea, put a frozen water bottle inside there cage.
