This is my hay feeder it backs onto 1x1 cage wire. My question is is the 1x1 space easy enough for kits to pull through hay? I could cut them to 1x2 or 2x2 thoughts?

Trial and error- but I would think that might be too small for them to get enough out of. You want them to grow big and healthy of course so it should be easier for them to get the hay. I find loads of great potential hay feeders at Good Will. Just spray paint your color on and add some wood and zipties- as good as new and super cute!
So cut the holes open to 1x2? I'll get it done tonight just hope 16 gauge wire holds up
should be fine for them as is. Wait and see before dismantling and making holes bigger. You don't want to provide access for rodents to get in either. Or for bunnies to be stupid and get heads stuck....
