I have seen that some feed the timothy alfalfa hay cubes to their rabbits instead of hay, I have seen others that say it isn't recommended. I am going out of town and would like to try them with my herd. My buns are on a high quality pellet and it would be so easy for our relatives to feed the cubes. I am allergic to hay also so it would be beneficial for me also. Thoughts? Also I can't find all timothy cubes. How about tractor supply alfalfa timothy cubes? Thanks.

A lot of RT members feed hay cubes instead of hay. I use both hay cubes and loose hay, and I feel that they are both good.

I have used the hay cubes in the past and it takes my rabbits longer to actually eat them. There is a TON less waste though! I have not gone back to them since I have not found a supplier here as of yet.

Thanks so much for your quick replies! It would be so so much easier than they hay. I give alot of hay and clean every 2 days but the mess is unreal, especially when my herd is in the garage. Seems like most gets peed and pooped on and goes through the grate also. I can only find alfalfa oat, and alfalfa timothy at Tractor supply for horses. Is that alright? Right now the hay they are on is 1st cut timothy with some alfalfa
I've fed both kinds from TSC.
The best growth I've had so far was when I was feeding the 16% protein alfalfa cubes (also carried by TSC) to the kits along with 16% pellets (purina, because it's been more stable than my manna pro), grass hay for digestion, and boss to the lactating does.

They work fine. The rabbits don't like eating them quite as much and they are more difficult so they may not be getting quite as much hay as eating a loose version if the cage is kept full to make up for the waste. I don't think it's enough to matter though. Mainly I use them as filler so they are not without food when they eat all their pellets. I also have an organic loose hay but sometimes I don't feel like the mess and sometimes there is a rabbit in the house somewhere that is a pain and more mess to haul hay from the box to the cage. I use pretty much all alfalfa and clover for my hay and I haven't had problems.

I ended up giving my bag away. None of my rabbits would eat them. I kept giving the cubes to them and not a single rabbit liked them.

I think cubes are fine to use, --just don't switch kinds on them suddenly, feed changes from all Timothy, or grass, --to all alfalfa can cause problems

I use the alfalfa/timothy cubes and I love them, less waste and all my rabbits like them-both as toys and snacks.
