My basil grew like crazy this year and then quickly went to seed when the heat wave hit. It re-seeded itself and now I have a HUGE patch of basil growing in one of my beds.

I just got done getting lettuce for a salad and fed the old leaves and fresh basil to the rabbits. They each got a little lettuce and a handful of fresh basil leaves. Needless to say, I have 5 very happy rabbits right now!

How neat! I did not have that much this year, but I will be growing a lot for next year.

We did well with basil. Ours did the same as yours. The cilantro went to seed in the heat too but never came back. Will have to rethink where to plant it next year. Parsley, argula and carrots also grown. Did well there too.

My Tribe is very happy also.

I planted Thai basil once five years ago and it's been replanting itself ever since. Love that cinnamon/clove taste it has. In Southeast Asia they add a sprig to a bowl of hot soup just for the aroma.
I never thought of it as rabbit greens. I'll see what they think of it tomorrow.

Cilantro is both an herb (leaves) and a spice (seeds). The seeds are Coriander. Harvest the seeds before they all ripen, or you will come out and find empty seed pods. The longer they are stored, the more aromatic they become.

Try planting it in partial shade. It was so hot this year that mine went to seed early anyway, when it got to be about a foot tall. If you plant it every 3-4 weeks, you should always have some plants that are young enough to harvest leaves from.

Cilantro and Coriander have some amazing health benefits. They are discussed in this article:

I tried the Thai basil and they dove right into it. My rabbits never cared for cilantro. Guess they aren't Mexican rabbits. ;)
