I bred my Vienna sable point doe to my REW buck in the hopes that she would carry c and produce REWs. That didn't happen(6 dark colored kits), so since she's a sable point I assumed she was just cchlcchl and all of the kits would be cchlc and be siamese sable.

But the kits are three weeks old now and decidedly black. No tipping, no silvering, nothing, black through and though. No sign of color change during those three weeks.

Are they late color changers, or am I missing something genetics wise? I had thought black would be impossible and I'm quite perplexed lol.

Pics are of the mother and two of the kits.

It's possible the vienna sable point could be a vienna sallander instead (cchd instead of cchl) and the kits are self chinchilla (which look black)
