I have a friend who has Mini Rex bunnies. She has 2 that have vent disease. In her words.... "I gave them 1cc per lb and I treated 2 bunnies with 1cc per lb of Dura Pen and now I see it's 1cc per 10lbs are they in danger???"

She now sees that it should have been 0.1cc per lb.

What now?

They will "probably" be ok. Antibiotics are generally fairly forgiving however, rabbits are more sensitive than other animals. I would get them started on a probiotic ASAP. I would worry the most about that much antibiotic disrupting their gut bacteria.

Thank you. I will pass this along. I believe she is watching this thread. So if anyone else has suggestions please post!!! Thank you.

I wish her the best of luck... I have no additional info, but agree with everything so far.

Just to stress, I would give probiotics whether it was given orally or not, and I'd give them daily for a while. It is likely that her gut flora will be way more severely impacted than normal.

You should know within a few hours, 24 max if there is going to be a bad reaction. That is way more than the dosage :/ 1/10 cc per pound is the correct (one lil mark if using a small 3ml syringe or has them ticked in 1/10 increments on larger ones, but I've never seen bigger ones do that just the small 3ml and 1ml around here).

Definitely probiotics and push fluids (pedialyte, juices w/o sugars, water most importantly). The more they drink, the less likely for things to plug up if there is an issue from dehydration with GI slow/stop IF that happens. Hopefully it doesn't. She'll still have to finish treatment to get rid of it, even with the scare though or it'll be no good even if they don't show any signs of VD.
