okay, need a camera- motion activated, night vision capable, rechargeable battery operated, to see who is stealing things like bicycles and gas cans from the back yard. I am not going to be here much longer, but I need to make sure we catch the thief/prankster-- so far, they have left the rabbits alone-- BUT.... every morning it is a case of check the lug nuts, put wiper blades back down, check gas tank fill pipe for tampering, etc...
ANyone know of something inexpensive, yet reliable.. I have a solar battery maintainer I can use if needed, so I don't have to mess with moving things

You can get ones with a visible flash or infrared flash. But for a night vision cam, that price will just blow through the roof. I hear Walmart has one for $50 that works, gonna try and pick it up today.

Night vision isn't necessary if it has infrared. You're looking at $100 price point. They run on C or D batteries for quite a while. Put a post on CL to see if you could borrow someone's.

Out of curiosity, why not call the police and ask them if they could set up a camera?

I want a camera for my own use later on anyway--
infrared? Hmm, I wonder if that is what my brother has---
And with the dad rabbit this morning, and no clue as to why--it could come in handy for just monitoring...

I had a guy messing around here and I work nights so he knows my wife is here at night by herself with our son. She was walking around in the dark through the livingroom one night and heard the door knob turn on the front door. When she turned the light on in the living room the only thing he saw through the window in the door was the end of the barrel of my s&w .40 she called the cops and they didn't do anything. About 2 nights later when I was off work me and my cousin went over and drug his a$$ out in the yard about 1am. He moved less then a week later. I don't mess with other peoples stuff and dont play with people messing with my family or my stuff.

__________ Sun May 27, 2012 3:37 am __________

Will you post the info on the camera and picture quality and price? Thinking it wouldn't hurt to get one myself.

What you need to consider also is the speed with which the camera takes the picture once the sensor is tripped. How do I know? Many pictures of deer butts. O look, there's a deer butt, there's another one! And so on. This is from a Moultrie I bought several years ago for about 75 or so. I can't remember the terminology for this cycle time. This was normally when a deer or other animal crossed from one side to the other within fairly close camera range. If coming face on, going straight away, or standing still there was not an issue.

I have a Bushnell trail camera and it works good.....have seem better night pics for other, more expensive cameras with a flash. The big thing about it is the batteries seem to last forever....unlike some that eat them up. It is infra-red ...no flash but is about $200.....unless on sale.

We have an EZ Cam that we got on sale at Big R - our farm store. It works pretty well but this one does flash at night. The flash lets the people know you are serious. It has gotten some great pics of geese in our pond or deer in the yard - not just the butts either! It runs on C batteries.

I saw this post pop up again on the recent posts list. Since I pulled the SD cards on my cameras today I thought I'd post one from my Moultrie InfraRed. I'd have to look up the model but I bought 3 of these last year from WallyWorld and have been pleased. Runs off 4 or 8 AA batteries, I've been running 8 and they last for a while.
