Our 'unintentional' breeding did produce one litter, thus far, and from the experienced doe who I thought wasn't pregnant. I am such a newbie.
Five kits were found this morning and all are now safely tucked away in the nesting box.

Their morning certainly was an adventure. So this morning I went in the garage and saw rabbit fur all over the floor. I was perplexed and wondered which rabbit was molting until I noticed our chocolate tort banging around her cage and one tiny black bunny wiggling on the floor of her cage. All I could think of was, uh-oh. Only one? The nesting box was in the other does cage since she was the one acting all pregnant, grumpy and 'starving' the past four weeks. All the straw that had been put in her cage earlier in the week was tossed out the cage, another odd thing. So I got the nesting box in the cage with some clean straw and what fur mama had pulled and put the little black kit in it. Then I started searching.

Sure enough, I found two more under the cage in the cat food tub. I dusted them off and placed them in the nest. Then the husband and kids were aware of the excitement and we started looking around for the others. One more kit had made its way under the shop vac about five feet from the cage and then last one was found a few feet away in the other direction curled up on a coil of extension cord. All the kits were warm despite their travels and are now curled up with each other in the nesting box. Mama calmed down after she checked them all over and did her own rearranging of the nest.

We are still looking around and searching to make sure we haven't missed any more wandering kits. It is a big lesson for me. I was certain the other doe was going to kindle LAST weekend and then stupidly failed to keep watch this week. Needles to say we are keeping watch to see if she will kindle later today or tomorrow. I sure hope this breeding thing gets easier in a sense. I will try to post pictures later when I can get on the computer. Until then.......happy birthday to Dijonaise' five little ones!

Oh, I'm glad you found all those wandering popples. :D

If you plan on doing more breeding in the future, you might want to consider adding some baby saver wire to your cages! Usually they stay in the nestbox like they are supposed to, but every now and then I stll get a kit who just won't stay put!

Baby saving wire? I will do that. I had no idea they could fall out that easily. After I posted my original post I went about our daily life and ended up finding yet another popple wiggling around on the floor next to a box. This makes six in this litter! I about lost it as this little one was getting chilled but was squirming very well. Fortunately, it is a warm day today so this little one snuggled in with the siblings in the nest box and seems to have warmed up nicely and quickly. Mama seems to be keeping a close eye on them all and checks then periodically. Keeping the human kids away from them all is a bigger challenge. They just want to play with them.

I have been having a lot of fun with this litter. It is our first one. I have been taking lots of pictures since they change and grow so quickly. I posted a few to the gallery here but have yet to be successful posting to this thread. I will try again later when I'm not so pressed for time. For now, here are a few pictures of the litter at one month old. I still have four kits available for sale, if you are interested. Pm me.
