I have/had a year old American/New Zealand cross rabbit who has had 1 healthy litter. Several weeks ago she started looking unstable, then progressed to being off balance and falling over and stumbling around as if she were drunk. Today I found her unable to walk to the food dish, so I culled her to save her from suffering any further.

Does anyone have any idea what this ailment could be?

Head trauma and parasites are other possibilities

- E. Cuniculi is the believed to be the parasite that causes "wry neck" but it can also cause the imbalance you describe.

- tape or round worms encysted in brain tissue can also cause these symptoms in rabbits

E. cuniculi was my first thought, but it could have been an ear infection or other things, like they said.

I'm sorry you had to cull her. It really is unlikely that she would have come back from it completely, though, so it was probably the right thing to do.

We have a wry-neck rabbit ourselves, but we worked to save him because he has been our son's pet rabbit since he was a little popple.
