Flax seed quickly deteriorates for the same reason it makes a great varnish, (yeah I'm doing a refinishing project)
it dries quickly

SO
if you grow a plot, then feed the whole plant with the seed heads separated and control how much of that you feed, the plant is high fiber and should be fine for them, and the seed head will provide omega poly unsaturated fat (the really good stuff), but I would limit the amount per feeding due to the fat content.

SO for the meat market you are doing for your meat what egglands best does for it's eggs, just organically etc.

Sounds like he is feeding both, but limiting the seed head due to the high fat content...
And yeah, chickens and rabbits both.. Ground Flax is a major ingredient in skin/coat supplements for dogs, cats, and large show animals- horses, cows etc

Flax grows here as volunteer plants from the seeds that fall out of the feed bowls. Its a very small fine plant, you would need a lot of space to grow it as greens to even make up a small part of the diet. I now know why it is so expensive in the Bulk Barn, and am now even more amazed when I look at the volume of seed in just one of their barrels... lol :)
