I finished the shelf cage and here it is. Not the best picture but best I can do.downsized_0928120916.jpg
I have another shelf I plan on making but will make the bottom cage higher. Right now I have it behind the house for a quaratine area. In the future when I finish the second one I thought I could hange cages between the two and set up a water system out of a bucket. I could put the bucket on top for a gravity feed. The floor wire is setting on the shelving wire and Losely hog clamped on. I noticed the poop is going through no problem. I was worried about it getting caught between the shelf and floor wire but so far no problems. I think it will work best as grow out cage because of the smaller poops. I plan on finding some plastic containers in the future to place under for easy clean up. for now I just put some old linolium till I get it set up permenant.

Looks pretty good...do you have it anchored to something so it won't tip over if the rabbits start acting crazy and bouncing around?

It is real heavy and sturdy so I am not to concerned. I think if I make the cages more towards the top on the next one I will want to watch it more closely. As of now no worries.

That is a darn nice idea you came up with.
a good re-purpose instead of trashing.

Maybe you can take/find some thin metal (like roofing) and have it tilted from one end to the other.
Then bend it up on the lower end to empty in a 5 gal bucket. Easiest cleanup there.

I am planning on trays until next spring then buy some corrugated plastic and make some poop ramps that run into gutters. I have some metal roofing for the other rabbits that I was given but it is hard to cut and work with. Will also replace their set up next spring.

That turned out nice, Demamma!

I'm with OAF in being a little worried about it tipping over... just to be on the safe side, maybe you could place cement pavers or pieces of 2" x 4"s under the front legs so it tips back toward the house slightly?

There are rabbits only on the bottom two where most of the weight is. If I wanted to tip it I would have to excert muscle to do so. I will double check it soon though to make sure it is safe.

That shelf cage is too big and heavy for the rabbits to tip. I checked it and feel secure that they could all do gymnastics at the same time and have a ape join them and it is not moving. Very heavy. I am thinking when I make the second one to hang cages between them. Thanks for your concern made me doubt so I checked again. Better safe than sorry.

do you mind if I save that picture and put it up on my website? I think it's a novel idea that more people could incorporate. :)

Help yourself :D It was easier than I thought. You can keep the wire in one big strip and use a hammer to fit it around the corner. Just make sure you measure good. I had to add some strips of wire afterwards.

I would put bricks or something under the legs, first rain and it will sink in. If it sinks unevenly, crash.

It can't sink in as it is resting on aggregate. Later it will be in carport which is all cement. No sink. If it does we are in trouble. probably earthquake

I found some plastic containers to use for litter treys until I set up a permenant situation with this cage. Walmart had them for 3 dollars each so I bought 4. It would of been better if they were a 1 1/2" bigger but still works. Since the rabbits usually like to go in the same spot I just make sure that spot is covered. So far it is working good. The two doe sisters I had together in the bigger pen but seperated today as they were getting witchy with each other.
