Hadn't had a litter since January due to multiple issues - random events in real life , being kept away from home for two months in June & August and a heat sterile buck.

Finally had two litters delivered yesterday and last night.

One of those being my Altex/Nz/Rex project from a massive doe out of the first generation of the crossing. Should be a 50/50 chance of getting Rex fur on these kits as mom is a blue half Rex quarter Altex & quarter NZ & dad is a purebred chocolate Rex. Been waiting a year for a litter from this pairing and its finally here!
Got 7 kits , one black , 3 chocolate 2 appear lilac & the last appears blue tho it may be another lilac , kinda hard to tell with so little fur on day one.

Really hope the black one shows Rex fur as getting a black Rex (either sex) was half the reason I started this project with shoulder improvement in my herd being the other. The mother to these kits is a fantastically put together rabbit , a real meat brick with big thick shoulders , great growth rate & is 13lbs+.

The other is a litter of 10 from my Victory Garden/OAF lilac doe named Evil Blue Too & OAF chocolate buck Cochise , she's a great mother. She had 11 in this litter but lost one. She appeared to have a hard time getting the one that didn't make it out as it was about twice the size of the others , my assumption is that it died due to lack of oxygen during the birthing process. This is the first kit she's lost in 6 litters.

7 chocolates , 3 lilacs.

So happy to have baby rabbits again after all the setbacks in the last few months , seems like things are almost normal again.

Congrats and glad to see you around again.

They probably had them cause the world shook to the north of you. I was breeding my does yesterday and one buck had me laughing. He fell off and as he recovered looked at the Doe and started thumping like crazy (never had one do that before) as if to say "you did that on purpose".

So far so good , everyone still alive & appear to be getting milk.

The first time mom is annoying me a bit lounging in the next box .... tho she's not laying on the kits as she made the nest in the rear portion of the box. I just worry that she will suffocate them in these early days of their development as I've had a doe do that before (my very first litter) and lost all but two of 13 as the nest box was too large & she made it her couch.
Probably my fault as I had given her the box for about a week as there was a possibility she was farther along than the date I had on my calendar and she became accustomed to lounging in it .... then I removed it when it was obvious she wasn't going to deliver and returned it two days before this litter was born.
Hard to complain much when they are all alive with fat bellies.

The other doe is like a machine ... great mother.

I knew you'd like that .... it was a very fitting name as I had a lot of trouble taming her. She didn't mind contact but absolutely hated to be picked up and would fight tooth and nail to avoid it, took quite a bit of work but she's easily handled now.

Best mother of all my does and she passes those skills off to her offspring , her daughter (also a lilac) is a great mother too tho she tends to have a bit smaller litters 6-8 instead of 9-11.

Cant wait for the Altex/NZ/Rex litter to grow some fur .... they have some fantastic colors. Hope for rex fur on the black as it'll be kept if it does regardless of sex.
The lilac's from that litter have a very vibrant color too , if one of them turns out with rex fur I may have to keep another .... will make my limited cage space tough to manage. Might have to expand (My wife may shoot me if she reads that).

They look great! Congratulations on the popples, it sounds like you were overdue so I'm glad you got a couple good batches! The lilac ones look like they will be gorgeous!

Update on the Rex x Altex/NZ project.

Here's the one black kit I intend to keep from the litter , believe its a doe but not sure. Kinda hope the sex change fairy pays me a visit on this one (or that I'm just wrong).
Was difficult to get them to pose .... and I don't know if I did it right or not. This kit is much thicker in the shoulder than my pure Rex line. She's (it?) a little meat brick overall .... Guard hairs don't appear to be an issue but it (she?) is only 28 days old. No telling what the adult coat looks like .....

Here's his non-rex showing lilac & chocolate siblings. They have a fantastic coat in their own right , very dense , even if they aren't what I'm after. Friendly little boogers too , they practically jump out of the pen begging for attention.
