We just checked on all the buns a bit ago. I didn't take all the kits out of the nest, but I looked at two or three from each litter and just lightly touched each kit to see if they responded, as well as felt around a bit. The kits in both litters look like they are well fed, with the little mandolin shape. Some of them don't have bulging bellies, but their skin has tightened up, so I'm guessing that some who originally looked especially wrinkly filled out that way first? I did specifically check for the runts in both litters and they both looked fed! :beer2:
I forgot to say in the original threads - Daphne's litter of 10 weighed in at 15.75 oz. Velma's 10 weighed 15.25 oz. It seems like Daphne's litter has a bigger difference in size from kit to kit, whereas most of Velma's are very close to the same size, really with just the exception of a large red and the pink runt! I have no idea if those are good litter weights or not.
When I cleaned up the one rejected runt I looked to see if I could tell its sex - it looks like a girl! We are going to try to figure out how to mark them and try sexing them all tomorrow. I did put a mark in the runts ear with a Sharpie, so we'll see if it's still there tomorrow. Any other recommendations on how to mark the sex and/or numbers? Each kit is fairly distinctive, with a few exceptions, so I think I can just take a picture of each one and note down the sex, then mark them - so if the mark comes off later I should be able to figure it out. But if someone has a better way, I'd love to hear it!
These aren't new pictures, but I thought they were cute!
This is Daphne's crew. The little escape artist in the corner has done this both times we've had them all out - it is always heading for the hills!
This is one of the reds out of Daphne. The other one is for sure a broken with a nice blanket pattern - but this one kind of looks like a solid to me, don't you think? If so, then Daphne isn't a Charlie like we thought, just a lightly marked broken -
This is Velma's crew. The little black one looks like it's diving in!
Also from Velma's litter - it does seem to me like there are different colors here. Do black kits show differently depending on the density of black fur they will have later, or might these actually be different colors? I hope so, I will confess! A color junky from our first litters! Either way, we will still have a nice little mix to start.
