Eye color genetics question. Blues

I’m having a heck of a time understanding and test breeding for eye colors.

I am having brown eyes pop up in my blue line. Opal and blue otter. Just those two blue colors. SOP says eyes should be blue grey for both those colors, and I’m randomly getting brown. I can’t pinpoint who is giving me the wonky color, as it doesn’t breed true (for me anyways).

Anyone have experience with this?

Not with blues, but my chinchilla rabbits can have either brown or grey eyes, brown is preferred in the SOP but I don't show, so it's not an issue for me

Like all traits, I suggest you keep the best and get rid of the rest
