Engorged Genitals

I lost most of a recent litter to cold. Not sure what happened. The dead kits all had a swollen reddened genital area, as did the ones that survived.

Five days later the survivors are thriving but still have reddened swollen genitals. It this an issue or is it just something I have never noticed before since I do not overly handle my newborns? <br /><br /> -- Thu Apr 28, 2016 8:16 am -- <br /><br /> Anyone?

Should not be red and swollen, they may have a slight infection. Have you tried a warm damp cloth to clean them to see if anything comes out or off? Mama may not be cleaning them too well depending on their age they may not have it down themselves causing the issue.
