Just wanted to share an updated picture of the black/orange harlequin colored buck I will be receiving at the convention. I'm so excited!
He is 5 1/2 weeks old in this picture. I need to ask the breeder what his ear length is.

Ideally, pulled back, his ears should reach his hips.
However, more importantly, they must balance with his head and body.

He's got a lot of growing left to do. At just 5 1/2 weeks, he will still be with Mama for another 2 weeks, at least. Both of his parents have well balanced ears, and they are fairly thick. Paper thin ears are unbecoming and a show fault, tho his is an unaccepted color and won't be shown anyway.

I plan to take more pics of the actual bunnies currently in my barn tomorrow....if it doesn't rain all day. I'll take the rain over pictures.

Stay tuned!

Love his color! Elops have such nice personalities. Looking forward to seeing more pictures once you have him.

Congratulations! He is gorgeous. Know wonder you are excited. I've read they have great personalities, just like Flemish.

Look forward to pics of your current bunnies when you get them.

Congrats on your beautiful new baby! I'm really happy with my last litter--they were does for a change! Hope to take a few EL to convention.

More pics as promised. The bkn black and bkn blue are sisters, and the oldest of my group, but still only born in April. The both developed gold tipped steel about a month ago. The blue has decided to molt, of course, a week before show date.

The blue, the cream and the blue torte are also sisters. I have already sold the cream. The blue torte is probably my best chance at a show rabbit of the 3. I actually have 2 blue sisters, but you can't tell 'em apart in pictures, so I didn't bother. These babies were born in June.

__________ Sat Aug 25, 2012 11:23 am __________

Hmmm, I can't seem to get the cream bunny's pic to post. Sorry.

Heard back from the breeder. Packard (my harly baby coming from Washington) has an ear length of 16.5" at 5 1/2 weeks old. I am pleased with that. The blue sisters ear length was about that at just a little older.

I'm thinking that mommy bunnies who nibble on baby ears get culled from the breeding program fairly quickly in an Elop barn...:?

absolutely! the ears must be in perfect condition - no nicks, rips or tears.

Great news too! I was just able to put a jr buck on hold from one of the top breeders in the nation!

Annnd....I will likely be getting a male/female pair of Velveteen lops from the original COD holder. I've never been in on the ground floor of a breed, or especially get a pair from the person who actually started it!

Convention is going to be soooo exciting! I can hardly wait. As soon as the deposits are finalized and the bunnies are actually mine, I will post their pics too.

Double WOW!!!

:congratulations:

I am crushed. Someone claimed the jr buck before me, so no go there. She has lots of other bucks, but none that really caught my eye. I was so wanting a bunny from her barn too. I've been on a waiting list for several months.

However, I have completed the deal for the pair of velveteen bunnies, so I will also be picking them up at convention. The buck is a very lightly marked tri, and the doe is REW. The breeder has agreed to breed the doe just before travel to a buck guaranteed to produce tri, so if she takes and doesn't abort, I will have an instant start waiting for the buck to grow up. Here is a picture of him. I don't have a pic of her yet, but white is white.

__________ Sun Aug 26, 2012 12:41 am __________

Even better news! The top breeder has offered me one of her personal jr bucks that she intended to keep. It has already won it's 2 junior legs, and both of it's parents are grand championed. I think he will cross very well with my current does. Here is his pic.

This brings my number of bunnies to pick up from convention up to 4. I am very impressed, both with the quality of bunnies being offered for sale, to the quality of people who are making these offers. Neither of these breeders had to sell me anything. Neither the 2 leg jr buck, nor the pair of velveteens were offered for sale to the public.

I am hoping to greatly improve the quality of my herd, and produce a much higher quality rabbit than may be available in our central location. Halloween seems so far away! I will update pics as I can get them.

the second to last picture looks like there is a trillium wildflower painted on her forehead and shoulders....[please tell me you named her Trillium....that is also the name of the female character in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.]
