I have two litters that are 17 days old. I took the nest box out about 2 days ago. Should I be worried about the kits getting too cold with the temp dropping to low 40's tonight? They are inside of a building but not air tight.

__________ Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:06 pm __________

shouldn't be, they have fur coats, but I would put the next box back in, sideways with straw, that way they have a place to burrow into and keep warm

I agree-- and give extra higher energy feed for mom and the kits, provide warmer water before going to bed...

You DO know they are wild animals that CAN and do survive all winter, even up here in frozen Alaska, without the hot water bottle, massage and chocolates before tuck in....
so, yeah, I think you MAY spoil your rabbits a little Terry

yeah, Jack, I know, and guess what-- I have NO problem with permitting a bit of anthropomorphism. My buns are now in the front bedroom, window wide open, and heat register closed off-- for MY safety reasons--

__________ Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:14 am __________

Heck with the rabbits, how I do I get in line for that kind of service??

well, you don;t go to Jack!! But come here, I like coddling people at times....

I like cuddling people too
just a certain type, not to thick, not to think, padding in the right places....

Anywho, back to rabbits, I don't worry about them past 2 weeks, if it's getting cold, I leave the box, on its side, in longer and change out the hay. Until it's sub freezing (0 for some folks) but even then WATER is more an issue that shelter.
