I recently processed a couple of fryers and after the skulls were cleaned I noticed this.

Probably something that would never get noticed unless it caused problems but it looks interesting. It is not broken as far as I can tell. It appears to be two separate teeth.

Interesting anomaly! The bone formation around the tooth (teeth?) looks a little skewed too. Not straight edges like the rest.

Very nice job on the skull, by the way! Do you have Dermestid beetles?

Thank you!

Yes, I do have beetles. They were supposed to be hubbies beetles for his deer skulls but somehow I ended up being the one do make sure they were fed etc. I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be easier to do the smaller skulls by Maceration. It is hard to get all the "bugs" out of the very small crevices in the skulls without damaging anything.

This is the moment I realize....I completely forgot about sending you those skulls we talked about.

I had a doe skull with divided teeth on matching sides of her bottom jaw, it almost looks like cavities. I thinks it's here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it to photograph later. It made me glad I'd culled the whole line. They were just mutts I culled to get all the steel colored rabbits out of the rabbitry....to make room for my agouti-fox project...before I discovered that all my unrelated silverfox were genetic super steels, of course.

That's completely ok.

Hubby swears one day I'm going to wake up look at him and ask "Who are you?"

-- Fri Mar 27, 2015 11:27 am --

I have the doe I culled yesterday in the bug box. I'm interested to see if I can see any sign of infection or problems in her sinus cavities.

You know...Mine says the same thing. I have very poor facial recognition ability, and often fail to identify people I know if they are out of a context I'm familiar with, like in a new place or dressed differently than I have come to expect. Having researched it online, I discovered that I unknowingly rely very heavily on voice to identify even familiar people. It's not that I can't recognize something familiar like skin tone, and clothing, and hair styles, or very distinctive feature...it's just that the actual mechanism of facial recognition is missing...

Me too :)

I can also recognize people by their gait and their unique body gestures

My shrink says it's one of my Aspie things

It doesn't make sense to me or my family since I can tell apart my 6 white geese from the kitchen window :p or 8 chinchilla coloured rabbits without checking tattoos

I find that odd as well, since it's believed the mechanism that allows people to recognize the difference in breeds is related to facial recognition...

I've been working at drawing recognizable characters, that is, characters I can draw in different clothing and poses, and at different angles that someone can identify by facial features...It turns out, it really isn't that difficult for me to DRAW something that triggers facial recognition in others... :hmm:

Names are my downfall. Unless it is someone I deal with regularly you can forget me remembering your name... It's not that I don't try to remember which names go with who, it's just that it takes alot to get to the point where I can put a face with a name. The funny thing is that I can often remember the names and faces separately just not put them together.

-- Fri Mar 27, 2015 1:30 pm --

That and appointments. One of the greatest things that ever happened was my getting an android phone with a calendar. Before hand I would literally lose sleep worrying about forgetting an appointment.

I cannot remember numbers. Not dates, appointments, birthdays, or even bank amounts. Pretty much nothing in number form can be stored in my memory. I have the mental storage for about two phone numbers...total.

I have the same problem but I also have spoken language difficulties so voice doesn't do a whole lot of good. I recognize people by build and body language first. Same with animals. I can tell you that rabbit with the lighter body and more energetic movement is Kuwa, his sister has identical head shape and color but she is thicker and more relaxed, her lilac ermine daughter was a bit in between but also relaxed body language and with shorter ears. I figured by generation 3 I will need to get a pen tattoo kit just in case. It is a problem that I can't describe anyone in a way most people will understand. I can't tell your their facial features, eye color, hair style or color.... They are an overall impression, not details. I did have a problem when someone grew out a beard, was not in any of the situations I usually see them, and was sitting in a chair. I had no idea who it was.

It took me 2 years to learn our last zipcode.

Well I may not remember your name, but I will remember your face.... the clothes you were wearing when we met.... and what you smelled like. I can also remember long sequences of numbers, I can't seem to forget them actually unless I force myself.

Here are the strange teeth we found on our doe.

Now that I think about it,
it may have been caused by the cleaning method? (Gently simmered instead of macerated or beetled.)
Still, with all the skulls I have cleaned with that method...this would be the only one that had teeth split from it.

I guess it's less useful than I thought it might be. I really wish I'd macerated this one properly, to rule that out.

She wasn't into chewing on wire...probably only a year old. Her front teeth were in fine shape. Mainly fed on manna pro, hay, and forage. It's a little surprising to see.

Assuming it was an actual condition and not caused by my skull cleaning method...makes me glad I culled her and discontinued that whole mutt line. (I think they were FG/NZ crosses, but not at all related to the FG/NZ crosses that make up part of my current line. ) Reminds me that I need to look inside a few fresh heads every now and then to keep tabs on my stock every now and then.

I wonder how common something like that might be, you know? She was a moody doe...maybe I should make a habit of checking the back teeth closely whenever I cull a moody rabbit.
