So, I've been trying to figure something out, and I've come up with a theory, and I need a little ... reassurance? That it's possible.

Four generations in to my commercial crosses, I'm noticing white paws and white nose snips on a at least one or two kits per litter. They almost look like Dutch cross markings.

I've been trying to piece together why this is happening, and I noticed it all has been coming from kits descended from my Palominos. That was curious, so I looked back and remembered that my whole Palomino breeding is based off of one buck who was very, very small and probably not purebred. I'm wondering - is it possible that he was half Dutch and it just isn't showing up until now? He had no markings.

Just curious.

With the Doberman dog, they were originally bred to Beauceron, as well as many other breeds. Rarely, you will still find a Doberman with hind dewclaws, that came from the Beauceron.
So, like with rabbits, whatever was used in the original breeding of the mixed Pal may eventually show up long down the road, since the gene is hiding in there somewhere.

um...I have had a dutch and dutch crosses...you may be right about his small size coming from having dutch in his line...but half dutch I think would have shown signs earlier...maybe he was quarter dutch or less? my half dutch bred to a rabbit with no dutch throws almost every kit tipped at least a tiny bit with white...bit it is definitely possible

Dutch is recessive so can hide for a very long time IF there is not much inbreeding or the litters are so small you don't see it but since your talking about meat mutts I'm assuming you have litters of 8 and up.
