If anyone is wondering why two pens instead of one large one, our buck at the time, Jasper, a NZR, was so eager to rebreed a doe that he was interfering with her kindling. We caged him for the short term, then divided the colony and he would spend three weeks on one side and then commute to spend three weeks on the other. That way, pregnant does could kindle in peace.

We eventually replaced Jasper with his son, Pudge, who was much more of a gentleman. We were able to take out the dividing barrier. So much of colony troubleshooting is being flexible.
