In trying to breed all my junior does they are getting a bit more individual attention than they usually get. Normally they get a pet or a treat but they are in and out of their cages these last few days quite a bit and I noticed that one of them, the last in my right hand row, looks all moth eaten. Her fur is chewed right down all over her front legs and belly.

Not a scrap of fur on the ground or in the cage and she is the only one who looks like this.

All were treated for ear mites last month with ivermectin so I odnt think is fur mites and her skin looks fine too.

Any ideas whats up?

caged separately or together? wire spacing on cages?

She has her own cage that is made entirely out of 1/2" by 1", 16 gauge wire. Its three feet long, two feet wide and eighteen inches tall.

She has a water nipple and a J feeder and sometimes a pine cone to play with but nothing else, her cage doesn't even have a hay rack yet so nothing to rub against.

It looks like she has eaten it

Gbov have you checked her teeth? Back when I raised French Lops malocclussion was problem with that breed and I'd keep an eye on everybodies teeth but on the young ones that were affected would develope a moth eaten look. The fur would catch on the lower teeth while they groom themselves.
Probably not it but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Never would have thought of that, shall check her teeth today if my ankle lets me get that far. Don't know WHAT I have done to it but daaaaaaang!

I had a litter of fryers that decided to give eachother hair cuts that looked like this but they did it to heads and backs.

More protein eh? I cant remember right now what % I feed but shall check it too.

She isn't that important to my herd as she is a very washed out red. Only her temperament has kept her with us so far but if she has serious issues she is a goner.

Oh no I've had ankle issues like that. Ouchie! I hadn't done anything to mine either that I could remember but I could hardly walk on it! Hope your ankle feels better soon!! :)
