Anyone else having any problems with does this year. Every litter I have is just males up the yazoo with my Champagnes. I've had litters of 8 with no does. And then when I do get a doe something happens to go wrong and she croaks. Ive had the kids let one out while I was gone, one had a heat stroke cuz she knocked her bottle off cuz I was at work, ones back end randomly went wacky and she died, and just recently one somehow opened up her cage(even though I had an extra clip on it) and fell out and broke her back. Seriously Im down to two does. Every doe that has died has been hold backs too! It's like come on cant you take the bad ones?!

Yech. I am in Texas heat, and just now bred. Hope I have more success. I also, hope you have more success! At least you have a lot to sell or send to FC

That was me at the beginning of the year. Then the litter that had 4 does, of the right colors, had a split ***** in two of the bucks, so I culled all of the does. Anther litter there was nothing worth keeping. Finally I have at least three does to keep!

I have heard that sometimes, when young, the ***** can appear to be split, that as the buck ages it becomes whole.??

It's wierd because my mini rex herd has been mostly does with a single boy(thats the right color) in the litter. The bad thing is no one needs bucks around here right now either. lol. I've had to butcher most of my bucks, held two back, but honestly ones just a big pet, ill never breed out of him, the other I just really like his type, very short shouldered. And from what ive seen and read a split ***** very very rarely becomes whole. Most of the time it will always stay split. The buck is then useless, they can very rarely breed, and it is an automatic DQ on the show table, although I have seen some people get away with it. A friends Creme is granded with a split *****, guess the judges should have been more thorough.

why would anyone want to show a rabbit, that they would not use to bred?

Well it all started out as no one noticing the split *****...until his second show. lol. The breeder must have because he sold him as a buck and it would obviously have been noticable then, but i guess he was never informed because like i said judge caught it at the second show and by then he already had two legs so it was one of those "why not just bring him" type of things. Truth is friend got attached and didnt wanna butcher him. lol
