I know this has been posted before but I have little time to look for it. My doe just had a kit. I know there are more in her. She is a first time doe. I went outside to check on her and found the kit on the ground (must have fell between the wire). It was clean. There was no blood found in the cage. She has not pulled hair. All that is in there is hair I've collected (not much) and lint from the drier we've been collecting.

The kit that was on the ground was still alive but very cold so must have been very recent. I put that kit in a towel I heated in the drier. The kit is completed covered but not smothered, I don't think. When do the kits need to eat after they are born. I know with human its immediately. Anything else I'm missing. I will go out there and pull some hair from her and put that in the nesting box. Will put her in a portable rabbit cage and bring her in so I can keep an eye on her too. I need to look up where to pull fur from on them though as last time I did that I guess I didn't pull in the right spot because it was difficult to get outl.

I'm not sure you should move the doe, Mystang. It will likely stop her labor. Just keep an eye on her where she is and collect the kits if they are born on the wire, and put them in the dryer with the other one.

If she doesn't pull fur after she kindles, try pulling from her belly and flanks. My does always have loose hair on the lower part of their rumps. If you have any other rabbits that are shedding you can collect their fur too.

Sometimes the doe's milk does not come in for a day or two even, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting them fed right away. After she finishes kindling you could add everybunny back to the nest and she can nurse them then if she wants, but most probably they wont get fed until this evening.

Good luck! Don't forget to take pics!

Heh, sorry MSD, I jumped the gun. I've already moved her into the indoor cage, pulled hair from around her nipples and tested for milk. She is lactating so I went ahead and fed the first kit. While it was feeding and I was pulling I felt the other kits inside kicking. I hope I didn't stop contractions. What is the herb you give to stimulate contractions? I didn't see it in the sticky.
After the kit finished eating I went ahead and put it back on the heating pad, (found one so I figured it would work better.) I'm afraid to put it in the nesting box mainly because I'm afraid she will Godzilla it.

One thing that has me confused is that she hasn't lost her appetite at all. She is still wanting to eat. All the other does I've had that kindled stopped eating, at least while they gave birth.

How dare you make a move without my sage advice, Mystang! :nono:

You can give her some parsley. It is one of the gentler emmenagogues. Here is a more complete list:

http://www.sisterzeus.com/Emmeno.htm

Maybe we should add it to your post on herbs. :hmm:

Don't worry too much if she stopped though. She will start up again when she is ready, and judging by the fact that she is eating she isn't stressed from the move in any case. It is odd that she is eating while in labor- but it wont hurt her.

Make sure the kit can move off of the heating pad if it gets too warm.

Thanks MSD! I'd kept the kit on the heating pad the whole time not really know what to do with it but I just moved it on double towels which will hopefully work well. I still have the heating pad just in case.

:) Emman.... :| emmanug.... :( emannohootiwhaty? :?

I'm very simple minded so I read the link. Parsley = good for having baby! Gotcha! LOL Not sure how to feed the parsley as I don't have any apples or other fruit besides oranges but I'll figure a way out.

As of now she's still just digging around in her cage eating left over pellets. Upsetting really. I want my kits NOW! Alive preferably.

You've got some great advice, I hope all goes well. None of my Rex skip meals, I've seen them eat, finish, jump into the box and have babies within minutes. I have a greedy herd.

 I'll try to use small words in my future posts to you. :encourage:

But...

but...

I do so enjoy adding new, hopefully multisyllabic (oops! Did it again. ) words to my vocabulary.

Time to bring out one of two things...

:gettowork:

or

:stirpot:

We really need a crockpot or pressure cooker smiley. *sigh*

Well, I mixed some parsley with some oats since I figured oats couldn't hurt. She's eaten a bit of it but other than that she's just lying around being all lazy and stuff.

*fingers crossed for healthy popples SOON*

Can someone please explain to her the meaning of SOON please? I really don't think she gets it. I tell her if she doesn't hurry up I'll get the pressure cooker out but she just looks at me knowing that she's my only SF and that I need her. She wins the argument everytime!

Ok, well I found some more parsley, sage and celery seed which I poured on her fodder. I felt like I was making a gourmet meal for her but whatever, as long as she gets done some time this year. If I had an epideral I'd have probably stuck her with that too lol.

That is why I don't have any oxytocin here. After 34 days of waiting, I'd be too tempted to use it improperly.

Heh, just looked at my last post where I typed epideral. I meant to type pitocin lol. You'd think I'd remember the difference between the two of them after being there for all my kids.

Anyway. After giving her all those herbs she started trying to make a nest (finally.) Guess something must have kicked in for her instincts, plus I put some paper in there that she could chew up and put where she wanted.

As of now she's just doing what she does best...lying around. Wife says she's having contractions because she's in the same position that our other doe was in when we watched her give birth...it's the same position she's been in all day. I guess it's women's intuition. She does look worn out and stressed though, she might be having them.

I wanna go to sleep though!

"He got me into this boat, so he can darn well wait until I popple!" :bunnyhop:

"And flowers would be nice, too...

preferably something edible (and EXPENSIVE!) like roses...

instead of those ho-hum dandelions that he makes the small flock of two-leggers gather from the lawn."

Go to bed, Mystang. She will have a full nest in the morning.

I've got no come-backs. Just laughing.
:rotfl:

Haha, well, I did end up going to bed around 12am. She was in labor at the time. She had labored breathing and you could just tell she was generally uncomfortable. Wife woke up a few times during the night for different reasons but each time she checked on her and nothing had happened. Last time she checked was around 6:30am and she still hadn't had any. I started to get a bit more concerned there but I nonetheless went back to sleep (don't mess with my sleep.)

Anyway, we woke up around 8:30am and while I was letting the dog out she came out letting me know we had popples but she didn't know how many were alive or dead. I came in and checked it out. We had a total of 8 popples + the 1 we had yesterday which was still alive so it came out to 9. Three were stillborn. They had been elongated which told of how hard a time she was having during all that time. I was surprised but she did have them in her nesting box which she did at least "try" to make with the paper and other materials I'd placed in there. If I had to grade her I'd give her a B. She didn't pull a single piece of fur nor did she really shred the paper all that well but I can tell she has it in her so I know she'll do better next time. She also didn't eat the afterbirth initially either until I tossed it to her and then she became a rabid, ferocious rabbit. :wr_trample:

Anyway, so we now have 6 kits with a good mom. I went ahead and made the nesting box as well as I could and she seems to be doing well. When my wife checked on them this morning they all had full bellies however I do not expect the preemy to make it. It doesn't seem like he ever gets a round tummy and is smaller than the rest, but even if we only have 5 that make it I will be happy since she is a new mommy.

Here are the popples

Here is Ebony. Yes, she's a spider-rabbit and is sitting on the side of the cage. :D

All in all I'm very proud of her and all the trouble she had in delivering to us our first litter of Silver Fox rabbits!!!

:congratulations:

They are adorable- love the pink bellies and feet on the two! Do they all look like that, or is the pigment just not fully in?

Spider rabbit looks very coy and smug... I think she enjoyed tormenting you all day yesterday!

I think she will be a good doe for you, and will do better next time. I bet she might pull fur in the next day or so as well- she was probably too preoccupied with straining to get those two kits out to do much else. Now that her pelvis has opened up a bit you shouldn't get any more elongated popples unless she carries a very small litter of huge kits.

So- what color roses did you bring her?

They all look like that. I found it amazing how much different they looked than the NZW or Cali kits I've had before!

She enjoyed it entirely too much

lol, I didn't get her any roses. I think it was my puppy dog eyes I gave her just before I went to sleep. :D It gets the girls every time.
