Well some may know we had a doe that was known by previous owner for kindling on day 30. Today was day 32 still no fur so we kinda gave up thinking maybe it was false pregnancy or she wasn't pregnant. I left the nest box in though.
Well an hour ago I went out to check on her and saw fur, blood, and one on the wire that looked dead. I looked in the nest box and there were 3 others - 2 of which also appeared dead but one wiggling. I got that one out and wrapped it up in warm towel and have it it in my shirt. It's wiggling & making little noises. (Thankful for that!!!!) I warmed the others but they did not revive.

Anyways the Momma is still pulling more fur and is hunkered down in the nest box. She appears she might be still laboring. Hoping for at least one more survivor.
It's around 50 degrees in the rabbitry. I'm assuming even if she doesn't have more survive this one would be warm enough to be back out there in the nest box, correct?

I wouldn't put him out there alone. After mom is done if there are no more, bring in the nest box and put a warm water bottle wrapped in a sock in the side of the box so the baby can move toward or away from it.
Take the little guy out for feedings but until he can regulate his body temperature, I would not leave him in the nest outside..
So sorry for the losses but maybe she will have some more live ones :good-luck:

Thank you for the quick reply!
I've had litters but not one go like this. How soon should I put the little one in again - I guess what I am wondering is how soon after kindling does the does milk come in? I believe 24 hours, correct?
One more question... I'm noticing this alive kit is having some bleeding from where the umbilical cord was attached. Is this normal? It's not much - I would assume it's somewhat normal.

I think she must have just been delivering the placenta and such when she appeared to still be laboring. There are no other new kits out there now. :( I was really hoping another would survive to cuddle up with this one.

You can try for a feeding in the morning, If she won't feed then try again about sunset.Give her some parsley that will help the milk to come in.
Maybe put a little Vaseline on the umbilical just to stop anymore blood.
So sorry about the trouble..it's just heartbreaking :( If you have anyone to foster this kit to you may want to do that and then re-breed the doe. The only miscarriage mine have had I bred her back and she did great..

Unfortunately I don't have anyone to foster to. I have another doe due in 8 days but none with kits right now. Thanks again for the replies. It's just always nice to have someone give feedback when you are feeling uncertain. Thanks for bein' there!
I'll keep this one in tonight and put out in the rabbitry in the morning. The high here tomorrow is in the upper 60's - near 70 so I'm thankful for that.

Very sad to say that the one that seemed it would be fine also died. :(
No survivors. I'm really surprised as this one was breathing well initially and making noise, and wiggling. I was keeping it inside warm... after awhile its breathing got more shallow, then gasped some ... and well that was it.
So sad to have lost them all. This little one was adorable. Thank you all the same.
I better get some rest now.

Sorry the little guy didn't make it. :(

Thanks JenerationX. I appreciate it. She's an older doe. She's had a lot of successful litters. I'm just hoping when we breed her again she has at least one litter left to give.

That stinks! Sorry the litter didn't go as hoped for you.
I would give momma a couple weeks to rest then try breeding her again.

Thanks - yes, that is my plan. I was already planning to breed another doe at the end of this month. I'll just breed this one at that time too.

Oh no!! Was this the door with the big dewlap? If not, sorry to confuse you with someone else, but if so, I know how much you were looking forward to those kits. Either way, we have to wonder what went wrong. Sounds like the doe was not having an easy time for whatever reason. :( Definitely get her out there and get her rebred. So sorry to hear of the bad luck with this litter. :(

So sorry to hear this. It is so hard to lose little ones.

*fingers crossed for next time*

Yes, that's the one. I think possibly one was initially stuck or something. It seems that would be likely as she delivered later than she normally does. I think they all went through too much trauma in delivery... it appeared that way. This is also what the gal I got her from suggested likely happened.
Yes, I was really looking forward to it. I have it down to breed her again on the 29th. (Scheduling/working around vacation time that we'll be gone)
Really thankful to have some others to anticipate in about a week. That makes it a little easier.

Aww... so sorry to hear that it was, indeed, the highly anticipated litter. I swear, it just seems to work out that way sometimes. The things we look forward to most seem to have other plans. :( Definitely keep your chin up and look forward to those other litters and hey, rabbits work fast. It won't be long until you have another litter to look forward to from her, with your own buck. *hugs*

Sorry for the lost litter, WHW. :(

Mini Lops usually have larger litters than four, don't they? I am thinking the kits were larger than normal, which is why she had such a difficult delivery and they were still born with the exception of the one.

Personally, I would breed her back now. Many of our members have noticed increased litter sizes when the does are bred back right after kindling. More kits = smaller kits, so that would be your best chance for a safe delivery next time.

Yes, her last litter was 7 and my other doe had 6 in her last litter. I agree with you that I think they were likely a bit large and made things difficult. I'd love to breed her back right away but I have to give it 2 weeks to work around a trip coming up. I don't want to be gone when litters are due.
