Have a doe who is due the 18th, she's never taken before. Was handing out hay and when I walked past her cage, she had a mouth full of hay. Covered her cage up and gave her a box of more hay.
Last time she was due on 1/24, but she didn't take, so I'm guessing she's just starting freakishly early? She isn't much rounder than she was, the other does that are due on the 6th and 7th look round and more full than they did before.
How common is early nesting, why do they do it? If you can't tell, I've never had a doe carry hay early...

I'm reading that 2wks can be a false pregnancy or just a early nester.
Also found before, that many breeding places add the nest 1wk before, not 3 days like most people are told to. Which, on another forum, looks like 1wk is common for a doe to make the nest, leave it alone and then have her kits a week later. Like they want the nest to be ready just in case or something. Sounds like something a wild rabbit would do, find a spot, dig a hole, make the nest and then not come back until it's time to have them. Do wild rabbits make many false nest holes like I've heard some other animals do?

i give nest boxes when the does ask for them. MOST ask anywhere from 2-5 days ahead of time. I have about five who ask about 13-15 days before due. And if they don't ask 3 days beforehand I give them one anyways. and of those I have about three who will ignore it until 5 minutes before due to kindle.

they are all quite individualistic in their nature/nuture abilities.
