I just bought 5 Marichoro cages and love them because they are large and roomy with a nice resting shelf that 6 buns love, but wondered if there are any stacking cages that urine can't get out of? I may make my own grates for my plastic cages though. Thoughts? Thanks!

Mine still manage to spray out of a large marchioro cage. I'm thinking of throwing up some light form of wood panels around the sides. It would work for wire cages too. It's not a great fix because it will need cleaned or replaced and it must be safe if the happen to reach through the bars and chew on it. I debated just zip tying plastic on but it would be bad if they got ahold of it. You can also get plexiglass and similar materials custom cut at some hardware stores. Lowes does it here. It's somewhat expensive but absolutely permanent and you can reuse the panels as many times as you like. Someone did that to a chinchilla cage we got that the pans are only like 1" deep so they hold no bedding.

I can't keep all my rabbits from peeing outside the cages in any of my wire bottom cages. I also have 3 racks that are each 3 tiers and can't keep it out 100%. Urine guards help but aren't 100%. My biggest problem is the space between the pan and the cage bottom. Any gap and the pee will get out. I thought I had finally built a 3 tier rack that would stop the pee. I used 10" aluminum flashing around the cage. I folded it into an L shape so that it covered 7" high on the sides and a 3" perimeter on the bottom. I thought this will be great because 7" is high enough to stop a buck and the perimeter made peeing through the gap impossible. The downside became apparent very quickly. All the rabbits peed in the corners and urine would collect on the perimeter. The rabbit would constantly put their feet in the urine and their feet became horrible. Finally I cut the perimeter to about 3/4" which corrected the foot problem. Unfortunately it exposed the gap and pee gets out. I don't much care if a buck sprays out of the front of the cage as I have some rugs that will catch it and are easy to clean. When they pee out the sides and back I have to move the racks and it becomes quite a task.

I plan to solve the pee problem this summer. I just haven't figured out an idea that will work for me yet to start building it.
