Could someone please guide me to a thread that discusses this, or could we start such a thread?

I am confused by the names of colors that are genetically the same yet have different names according to their breed.

For example, Agouti seems to be called Sandy in Flemish Giants, but what is it in Rex? What about in other breeds?

Am I making sense?

Here's a few examples:

Black agouti, called Chestnut or Chestnut Agouti in most breeds, is called:
- Castor in Rex and Mini Rex
- Grey in Dutch
- Copper in Satins and Mini Satins
- Sandy in Flemish Giants

Blue Chinchilla is also called Squirrel in many breeds.

Chocolate Agouti is called Amber in Rex.

Himalayan, Californian and Pointed White are all terms for the same color, depending on the breed.

There is some reasons for the different names though. I've read that Sandy Flemish have wideband, and Castor rex have a lot of rufous factor, based on the name I'd wager coppers do too.

Dunno about flemish. They have quite different names from other breeds. Orange, red, fawn, cream is probably the most confusing subject and the names mentioned for black agouti. Most of the rest of the colors use the same names for nearly all breeds.

I am working on that, Dood! However, not everyone knows the genotypes and in general conversation they use color names. I aim to be fluent in both languages. Thanks for the link!
