It's day 36 and Bessy is [finally] pulling fur.

Praying for lots of healthy, alive babies and not just an other false pregnancy.

Day 37: No babies yet.

Her nest looks nothing like the extravagant nests that the false pregnancy does made. I don't know if this is because it's hotter than when the other does made theirs? Or if it is because she's a first time mom?

And she's eating the hay from the box... Her tummy does feel tight tough. I can't feel individual sacks, but I suppose this is because she's too far in the pregnancy?

All the boys are really perked up. They've got their noises curiously smelling the air, and have their ears pointing toward Bessy and are carefully listening. The other does couldn't care less -- they're all stretching in front of the fans, trying to stay cool.

She's also cleaning her vulva much more often than I've ever noticed before.

__________ Tue May 29, 2012 10:14 am __________

Anything I can feed her to aid with kindling?

A calcium boost sometimes helps. Offer her a TUMS antacid tablet; they are sometimes used as a calcium supplement. Dandelions are rich in calcium also.

Thanks. I gave her some dandelions and will give some tums.

__________ Tue May 29, 2012 10:48 am __________

I can't wait any longer!

Could she just be picking up on the hormones from her sister, who was just bred? I've read about kits popping on day 36, but never on day 37 or later.

Unfortunately, you have to.... :) At that stage of pregnancy, you should be able to feel the kits by just laying your hand against her belly and gently pressing in with your fingers. You will feel the little bodies as firm objects that move when you press against them.

Way back when my grandpop raised rabbits, he had one doe go to day 37, she only had 2 kits but they looked like they were almost a week old!

SHE'S KINDLING.... I think.

__________ Tue May 29, 2012 11:32 pm __________

Hmmm... No kits, yet.

We're 15 minutes away from day 38.

Do you have any lavender?

Unfortunately, no. Dried or fresh, does it matter? I'll drive over to the nursery and get some as soon as it opens.

I spoke to someone who purchased my reds and blues:

The doe that had pulled 13 days prior to the due date, nothing.
Her sister pulled late, but nothing either.

Very frustrating.

__________ Wed May 30, 2012 8:31 am __________

Well Bessy jumped out of the cage, the moment I opened it. She seems much happier now that she's back with the colony. I put the nest box in, of course.

Nursery opens at 10:30

I'm hoping the lavender and a bit of exercise will help.

News? it doesn't matter fresh or dried. I love it and I grow it all over the place. Now that I know what it does, I take especial care of it.

Nothing. She made her nest much nicer, though.

Day 39 is fast approaching. Emotionally, I've given up... It's too stressful to be hoping for babies. I am, however, leaving the nest box with her just to be safe.

__________ Thu May 31, 2012 12:08 pm __________

Day 39: she destroyed her nest. No kits, nor any signs of cannibalized kits. Lavender didn't seem to do anything. I think it's time to remove the box... This is getting a little too ridiculous. She probably was never even pregnant. Sigh.

Unfortunately not! What a bummer.

On the bright side, if you breed her today, you'll have kits in about 30 days. :) Or 39 in your case...

Sadly, that won't happen. She was suppose to go to her new home as soon as her litter was weaned, but seems like she'll be leaving us sooner than I thought.

I have her sister due to kindle on June 28th, though. This time, it wasn't an "oops" breeding -- I was there and watched the buck do his fainting act.
