I have 5 rabbits: 4 pure white new zealands (2 does and 2 bucks) and 1 Californian Doe. My 3 does all had kits at the same time and I've been looking in every day to make sure everything is ok. Well, my Maizy (NW) ended up being a surrogate to my Lola's (Cali) since it was Lola's first. I figured it would be easy to tell the kits apart so I didn't bother inking. It turns out Maizy's kits are mostly colored and not pure white the the sire and dame.
So the question is, why did a NZ white and NZ White make NZ multicolored kits unless of course Maizy had an affair but she strictly denies that.

It sounds like there are some rabbits of other colors in their heritage. NZs come in red and black as well, and I think there are blues although they are not a recognized color.

Do any of the rabbits have pedigrees? Many people think any large white rabbit is a New Zealand.

Thankfully, Maizy has high moral standards, and you have some nice healthy kits to boot! :)

Red -Eyed White to Red-Eyed whites will only strictly produce Red-eyed whites, which is what a "white New Zealand" is. The colour could possibly be from the Californian kits being chilled and starting to show their point colour. Other than that if either of the NZ's has anything other than red eyes then it would throw colour because its not a rew then.

That was my first question, do both of these buns have red eyes? As Devon's Mom said, Red eyed white to Red eyed white will always produce Red eyed white.

Yeah, both parents have Red eyes, (which I've always though was the coolest.) They don't have pedigree's so MSD might have something. I don't know their lineage so they could have been other rabbit DNA in their background. IDK, I just find it very interesting.

I once had a Rew bred too REW produce black broken kits.these rabbits had full pedigrees and i had no broken bucks as they were not even showable back then.I read in a genetics book once that REW can be hiding other colors.soo if your REW is out of coloreds it can produce coloreds. In Netherlands REWs are seldom pure rew in pedigrees.I have had REWS pop out of oranges.

REW is cc though. so cc x cc is always going to be cc. It is simply not genetically possible to get anything but REW when breeding REW x REW.

I'm not a big person for always, but scientific fact says REw to REW is always REw, no matter what the color is genetically. Then it stands to reason that somebun is not a REW, perhaps one is a himi with no points?

guess what?... We are gonna need PICTURES!!!!! YES YES!! Pleassse? Of the parents and the kits in question.

Ok to clarify things ALL REWS do carry genetic info for colour/solid/broken/shaded?whatevers/ HOWEVER two small "cc" means that the rabbit has no mechanism to produce any melanin, which is the chemical required to produce colour. So yes, its there, but unable to be expressed. There are many forms of albinism of which rew is the most complete. There are varying chin forms up to chinchilla agouti where "some" colour is produced but others (mostly tan/reds) are still suppressed.
