Can anyone help me id the color of this kit? Its a one week old Holland Lop, mom is a tri colored torte (so I have been told) and dad is a salt and pepper color. So far his belly is white, his ears are white outlined with black and grey/orange colored hair, his nose has a black spot and the rest is pretty much an orange and grey color. Thanks for your opinions in advance!

looks kinda like a torted agouti. but you'll have to wait until he gets older to be sure the black around his ears and nose can get darker or lighter with age.

No, the Does tail is all dark brown. She does have white underneith on her belly and at the tips of her hair. In fact, her entire nest looks light/white, and she pulled a lot of hair.
I also have the Grandma, and she's a broken tri-tort (the one in my profile pic) if that helps, and the maternal grandpa is Blue:) Also, re-check the pic of the Buck in the above post, it appeared to be wrong and
I just edited it to reflect the correct one (that should be a big help)!

Is the bottom of mom's tail white? I'm trying to figure out where the agouti is comming from because the both look self to me lol

Torts can carry agouti. I had this Harlequin doe have both tort and agouti kits in the same litter. both blue colored kits are opals.

Ok, the agouti is def from mom so still either a fawn or a chocolate agouti.

Torts cannot carry agouti. Torts are ee aa which is genetically a non-extension self. Your harli doe was an agouti who carried self. Most harli's are agouti it's desired so that you don't get torted harlequins.

huh, that's strange since the black tort above had a litter and most of the kits were agrouti.

If the other parent was agouti that would make sense, as agouti is dominant.

Macksmom, Here is another thread that might help a bit. There are some pictures of chocolate kits in it. I'm actually leaning toward your's being a smutty fawn but since you are there and can look in person I thought these might help. post293602.html?hilit=chocolate#p293602

Dad looks like a chinchilla lop = A_ B_ cchd D_ Ee

Mom looks like a solid (not tri or broken) tort = aa B_ C_ D_ ee

Kit looks like a smutty fawn = Aa B_ C_ D_ ee

So genetics are totally confusing and new to me, but I am loving the education I am getting:). I am kind of hoping this kit is a little Doe,
as I would love to keep it. There are great mothering instincts in its bloodline and I really like this color. If it's a Buck I will likely sell, because we only keep one Buck for 4 or 5 Does and I don't like breeding within the bloodline too much....and the Buck who fathered this kit is already sold, so my new Buck is no relation:) Fingers crossed it's a girl!
