I always tell people that breeding in the winter works well AS LONG AS the does do their job.

Well...yesterday I had two does NOT do their job and had to fight to save some kits.

I lost 8 saved four. BITES.

Really really BITES.

Good point: the doe whose kits I saved is a new young doe, and she did try hard just pulled the fur in a spot away far away from where her kits actually were.

Bad point: seasoned doe...I have NO CLUE what was in her brain. Total fail, but she hopefully has a pet home in the next week or so.... (this was simply going to be a bonus litter)

Good point: reminds me to have empathy for those who also have idiotic does at times....

Bad point: I REALLY WANTED those additional eight kits!!!!!

Good point: my son learned more about animal husbandry. And I was able to show him how sometimes kits SHOULD make it, but don't (had heated them up well from the gasping cold stage). And that sometimes God has other plans. For instance one kit that I thought for sure would fade pulled through, whereas a seemingly healthier stronger kit did not.

I have idiot does, old and new. Hoping to breed that out and get some good mothers that make nests and have kits in boxes.

So sorry to hear about the lost kits.

Bad point: Truly bites that those 8 additional kits were lost. Especially from a seasoned doe.

Good point: Excellent Life lesson for your Son. Sometimes in life, things just don't make sense.

Aww. :( That is a lot of kits to lose all at once.

It is a good reminder to be thankful when things go as they should.

That's the truth.
