I just went outside and found one of the kits way, way out of the nesting box and hutch on the grass and COLD. It's a damp, cold day here. He's barely moving. I've been rubbing him to get him breathing and get his blood circulating. I put tshirts in the dryer and now he's bundled in a warm shirt.

So now I wait?

Ugh!!!

I can tell he's doing better but it's going to take a while to warm him.

There's no way I'll be able to sleep tonight wondering if they're all getting out and freezing to death.

I hope he warms up and is okay. Why don't you lock Bertha in her wooden hutch tonight with the kits so if any start wandering they can't get outside?

He died.

Yes, I think I might lock her in the hutch tonight.

I had Greg put a 2" lip on the inner edge of the nesting box.

I should have followed my guy instinct. I didn't feel right about having the nesting box on its side. And it was cold and damp today. I knew I shouldn't have let them have the ability to get out so easily.

Oh, too bad! Poor little guy! I hate it when I ignore my gut and what I feared comes to pass. That is when I wish I had a time machine. :(

Don't kick yourself too much. At least you didn't lose the whole litter, and now you know there are some safety concerns that need to be addressed with your hutch design. As long as you work on fixing the issues, he wont have died in vain.

((Hugs))
