I found out a month ago that my rabbits have or had intestinal coccidiosis. I treated them with corrid for 5 days and then off for 2 weeks and now we are back on the corrid for 5 days again. All my rabbits seem to be responding to treatment and no longer have Coccidiosis except a junior buck who dosen't seem like he's responding to treatment. What should I do with him? I seen and gone through 4 deaths of juniors already and don't want to go through it again.
Thanks,
Zach

The damage to the rabbit may have been too severe, -- if he does not respond to treatment you will have to decide when to "cull" him, -- a careful watch should be a part of your program from now on-- coccidiosis is often a permanent resident.....

I know it can stick around for a very long time. One of my rabbits contracted it during a statewide show and died a month later and it's been here ever since. Do I need to cull all my rabbits and start over because they are all carriers.

coccidiosis can stay in the soil for at least 50 years, -- once your rabbits get an immunity to it, they will be fine unless their immune system gets compromised, -- your big worry will an outbreak in the young , between nest box and 8 to 10 [ or so]weeks, - I have coccidiosis on this farm I am living on, and I know it, [ and I feed root crops, weeds, and hay ]- I feed some [a handful] onion tops , garlic chive, or garlic tops to my breeding does , and bucks once every month or so, and a week before they are supposed to kindle, and about the time the young start to come out of the nest ,to keep the cocci numbers down, [these herbs kill coccidiosis] I have no problems with the young [or any of the rabbits] when I do this... if young rabbits are exposed to small amounts of this protozoan parasite they develop an immunity, if they are exposed to a large amount they are overwhelmed and they get sick.- once your rabbits are well, you will just have to pay attention, -- everyone who raises rabbits in any volume, brings in rabbits, or goes to shows, will have to watch for this , be able to recognize the early symptoms, and learn to deal with it, -coccidiosis will happen sooner or later-- - it is just part of the business --
