Anyone want to share pictures of coat colors? This might help someone else figure out what they've got.

Put breed, color, and age if possible. Not sure how to keep it organized, perhaps this can be a thread for agouti first? Any maybe if the person who post the color explains the genetics as well?

For example

Agouti---AKA Black Agouti, Chestnut, Castor

I like that site as well, but I was really hoping people would post there own. There is a link with all kinds of primers on coats and genetics, but still people ask color questions here instead of reading those. Perhaps they want something more user friendly or just like the discussion.

This is my favourite site for rabbit genetics and they have many pictures of the colours.

I breed American Chinchillas and crosses. Mini Lops and crosses and meat mutts with a steel chestnut Flemish x New Zealand buck. They all have roll back fur.

People should also post the breed of rabbits, as wooled breeds look different from standard fur, which look different from rex fur.

I am also an admin on a FB Group called What Color Is My Rabbit? Which has a colour project going on. We're collecting up photos of all different colours, in wooled breeds, non-wooled breeds and kits.

That is a project long overdue. Especially across breeds.

At birth, the colors look the same, across the holland, Rex, Mini Rex, Silver Fox, Jersey Wooly, and Angoras. Blacks are blacks, blues, Sables, Himi, even Rex kits look chestnut at birth through 2 weeks. But around 8 weeks, the changes are dramatic.
With a wool rabbit, sometimes you can't tell colors apart by photo after the wool is grown in, chocolate looks a lot like sable and like tort sometimes. You would have needed to see them at birth.
Or Siamese Sable, Chins, Smoke Pearls--boy they look different at birth up to 10 weeks.

There's tons of people and places that have colour guides like this, but even between them, you'll find a lot of controversy. Especially, as you pointed out, when the rabbits get older. And then you have the colour name differences between breeds, which can confuse people as well.

In the group, kits are all lumped together. Adults are separated by wooled and non-wooled breeds.
