Okay so I've noticed that my buck has clumpy poop. It's moist, almost to the point of diarrhea, but still solid. It is large and the poop is like small poop all put together. He hasn't been exposed to any new rabbits. I hope that he will be okay.

Those are cecotropes...normally they eat them and you won't see them. What are you feeding him and how much? He may be getting too much.

This is the first time I have seen them. I feed him rabbit pellets and normally I fill up a small plastic bowl. I free-feed him because I do not have access to a scale to weigh the feed at the moment. But he is still a bit underweight, by feeling his back. He is probably a year or close to a year old and weighs probably 6-8 pounds.

If you are free feeding him pellets, he's probably just eating too much too fast. It cause then to get lazy about eating their decals and that will cause an issue eventually.

I'm sure others will comment, but I would suggest cutting back on his pellets, maybe offer smaller feedings twice a day, and unlimited Timothy hay.

Lopsided,
if your Rabbit is underweight you might try adding some Rolled Oats to it's diet.
Oats will add flesh not fat. I would also provide, [In a proper hay-feeder]
a goodly amount of grass-hay at least three times per week.
this will help to keep the hindgut working properly.
Ottersatin. :eek:ldtimer:

I have noticed something very similar with one of my does once or twice. right now she is caring for 4, 3 week old kits. My wife also noticed her licking up some of her pee  I think I'll breed her one more time then cycle her out with one of her kits.

If your rabbit is underweight even though you free feed you might want to see if it helps to change the brand of pellets you use. Maybe he's not getting the right balance of nutrients from them. Also, all rabbit produce cecotropes, they are also called night time poos and they eat them for nutrition. Like some of the others have said, usually left over cecotropes are a sign of too rich of a diet or over feeding too many pellets- and usually its the over weight rabbits that don't eat their cecotropes.

My does seem to leave cecotropes after they have babies. I think it either because I feed them a lot more pellets than they normally get after they have babies, or maybe its because they are leaving them on purpose for the babies so they can get the right gut flora in their systems.

Yeah, you definitely don't want to cull a doe for doing what she is supposed to do when caring for her kits :)

I will ecco Ottersatin on feeding grass hay, pellets have too little long stem fiber for many rabbits., also you might consider worming a rabbit if they are thin or unthrifty . -and I worm each year even if i see no problems, I am sometimes amazed to see lots of ascarids come out of animals that seem to be in perfect health.

Do you provide a mineral salt spool or block ,for your rabbits,?? -- some brands of rabbit pellets are low in salt and minerals. -- if not ,you could try giving her a mineral salt spool and see if she uses some of it. -

Right... I've also seen people post that their rabbits are licking urine while they do have a mineral block, so it seems to maybe be something else?

Of course if she does not have a mineral block that is probably the answer.

:)

Good to know, I was wondering why my doe with kits was having the same issue. She gets extra pellets along with extra BOSS. Kits will be three weeks old Saturday so I will probably start cutting back some on the BOSS and pellets now that the kits are eating grass and pellets.
