We bought TSC cages out of desperation and will be changing them out as soon as we can. I'm vastly unimpressed with their workmanship, or lack thereof.

In the meantime, I HATE HATE HATE how the doors open in and up. It aggravates and pokes my bunnies every time.

Suggestions on how to change that? Just move the door to the outside? but then will they chew the door guard that protects from the sharp metal around the door opening? Would clipping shut with a clip of some sort be sufficient (like a snap?).

OR should I just deal? LOL.

Most of my cages have the in and up style door, I have some that open down and out and some that open to the side which are my least favorite because they hit the J feeders... so you just need to find what you like best.

None of mine ever have.

That depends on the door itself- is the perimeter reinforced with a heavy gauge metal, or is it just a piece of cage wire cut to size? Two clips might be safest if it is not reinforced, otherwise they may be able to push out at the corners.

I would. I think that design is the most escape proof. Especially in your case, with small children who will undoubtedly open the cages and are not old enough to close and lock them afterward.

This is why I like the in and up doors. I had a rabbit escape from a door that opened outward once, and ended up having to clip the corners. With the in and up doors, they can push on the door all they want, and it isn't going anywhere.

I have some "Pet Lodge" that are like the TSC and opened from the inside and you pushed it up. All I did was remove the j-clips, pulled out the door, installed it on the outside so that it drops down (used new Jclips).

I keep the door closed with the clasps that you find on dog leashes (from Dollar Tree).

Works great and keeps the door out of the way!
