Has anyone used ceiling fans in their rabbit barn to keep the buns cool? In the past I have use a bunch of box fans and I'm looking to get better coverage as it starts to get hot and thought ceiling fans would do the trick I have 12' ceilings in the barn. What everyone's thoughts good bad or indifferent?

I would like to consider the same thing, except the barn has no electricity, so I would need a corded fan.

its easy enough to add a plug in on a ceiling fan it just seems you would get air flow over a larger area with a couple ceiling fans and I want to see if anyone has tried them.

I am going to put in a ceiling fan in soon, hopefully in the next few weeks. My rabbits are under a covered carport attached to my house. I will post pics and an update when we get it done.

Interesting idea. It would be simple to install one in my bunnybarn. :hmm:

The concern with all fans is dust and fur getting into the motor and starting fires- so make sure to clean it frequently.

Hmmm... might be better to get a rolling chicken house fan, or a smaller industrial fan or two, that you can unplug and clean more easily?

Although it wouldn't be as visually appealing, a box fan could be suspended above the cages.

My barn has a vented peak, so it might be counterproductive in my case since I would be pushing the hot air back down.

Getting that heat out of a twelve foot ceiling is a booger. Either way the fan is operated, it will push or pull the warmer air down. Vents on opposite ends of the building "UP-HIGH" would move more hot air out of the space above the cages. You could place a piece of filter medium over the intake side of the fan.

Ceiling fans, I fear, would easily clog-up and become a problem. I'm in the final processes of wiring to large exhaust fans (furnace blowers) to get the hot air out of the room.
